Shepherd/Polaris SPD100 Overview

The Polaris Digital Exposure Meter is a compact flash and ambient light meter that has many features of the more expensive flash meters. A unique multi-flash feature makes it simple to calculate how many times the flash must be fired to achieve a desired f-stop. The Polaris's large LCD display shows both the shutter speed and f-stop in 1/10 stop increments.

question

I have this flash meter and use it wired to my Impact (B&H) mono lights. Is there a way to use this meter wireless to trigger the lights?
Asked by: RICK S.
Pretty sure you can just hook up a sync cord to a wireless trigger

question

Hello, I am a 'light meter caveman' meaning I have no experience with light meters. I use 3 continuous lights with diffusers and have created an inverse square table to 'guess-ti-mate' the exposure values of my lights (contrast / light ratios).Any comments about the reflected / incident meter function (I've searched all 101 reviews and see few comments on this)?Thank youRMHouston, Texas

Hmm, that's an interesting question, I have never used it with studio lights before but, when measuring incident light you use the meter with the white globe over the sensor and place the meter next to your subject to take the reading. When using the reflected light setting you stand in front of your subject and aim the meter (with sensor uncovered by sliding white globe to the right or left) directly at the subject and then take your reading. To use it with studio lights I guess you would have to plug the sync cable into the meter in order to have the strobes fire when you press the button to take the reading.

question

Understand this requires some type wire sinc to the flash. I use a Canon 5D Mark II with Vello Free Wave Fusion trigger/receivers (all from B&H)to trigger Canon 430 EX flashes. Assume the connection is from the flash is from meter to meter, if so what type wire is required, length and cost of this item.Thanks-Tom

The meter has a PC/Sync Port. You can use a sync cord or you can set the meter to read and take a shot with the camera. If the flash is set to TTL then the only way to get an accurate reading is to take a shot with the camera and set the meter to read. This way there is no need for a sync cord.If you are not in TTL then you can use a sync cord. The Canon 430 EX flash does not have a sync port so you will need an adapter. This will work, Paramount PMHSFPC15S Hot Shoe to Male PC. The link for this one is, http://bhpho.to/1kGcgNu
