Hoodman HCP Overview

The HCP DSLR Custom Finder Plate for HoodLoupe from Hoodman is an adjustable mounting solution for 3" or 3.2" HoodLoupes. The base plate features a camera mounting screw and dual 1/4"-20 tripod sockets. Connected to it is an upright column that attaches to the optional HoodLoupe. The on-board hex tool enables horizontal and vertical adjustments.

The horizontal quick-release bar attached to the upright column can be easily moved in and out using the brass knob, allowing you to attach or remove the loupe from the assembly. An H3.0 adapter is included to allow mounting the plate to an older HoodLoupe that doesn't have the 1/4"-20 connection. The HCP base plate features anti-twist bars, a hand strap slot, and a camera sling strap attachment point. It is constructed in the USA from milled black anodized aluminum.

The parts are of high quality manufacturing. However, in this instance the item delivered device was missing the part ( quick Release Spar) that connects the hood to the device base plate. In as much as I have an older model, of the Hoodman, I attempted to Frankenstein a working unit however, the base plate will not accept parts from the older Hoodman viewer it was not to be as the parts were not interchangeable.

Shoot DSLR as a mirrorless

As a film and DSLR shooter, this allows me to shoot my 1Dx MK 3 as a pseudo mirrorless camera using the back screen. As some focus tracking functions like eye tracking ate only available in live view, this allows me to hold the camera to my eye as a camera should be held. The only downside is the bar for adjusting the highth of the loupe is about 1/2 to short to allow me to attach it wirh my L bracket on the body. As is I have to remove the L bracket but that's only a minor inconvenience.

Yes, when one is using the Hoodman HCP DSLR Camera Custom Finder Base Plate, for HoodLoupe, one can connect the base plate to a tripod using a 1/4"-20 inner thread in the base plate.

Yes, the Hoodman HCP DSLR Camera Custom Finder Base would be compatible for use with the Nikon D800E DSLR camera both when using the camera with a battery grip or when used with the camera by itself.
