Hoodman HCP overview

  • 1Description

The HCP DSLR Custom Finder Plate for HoodLoupe from Hoodman is an adjustable mounting solution for 3" or 3.2" HoodLoupes. The base plate features a camera mounting screw and dual 1/4"-20 tripod sockets. Connected to it is an upright column that attaches to the optional HoodLoupe. The on-board hex tool enables horizontal and vertical adjustments.

The horizontal quick-release bar attached to the upright column can be easily moved in and out using the brass knob, allowing you to attach or remove the loupe from the assembly. An H3.0 adapter is included to allow mounting the plate to an older HoodLoupe that doesn't have the 1/4"-20 connection. The HCP base plate features anti-twist bars, a hand strap slot, and a camera sling strap attachment point. It is constructed in the USA from milled black anodized aluminum.

    Hoodman HCP reviews

HCP DSLR Camera Custom Finder Base Plate for HoodLoupe is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lack of Textual/graphical Instructions. The product is very well-made and works as promised. The only disconcerting problem is that you have to go to a video by Hoodman to figure out how to install it. I would expect that for $ Hoodman could afford to put printed instructions in the box. I had to save the video and look at it several times to set it up properly. Other than that, is is a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny...and then some! Every so often, a company will get a product totally right; this is one of those products. The design is thoroughly thought out, it is beautifully machined, adaptable to a wide range of cameras, is solid and stable in use, and it's made in U.S.A.! Note that adaptation is simplest if your camera's tripod socket is aligned directly under the lens axis (i.e. centered on the lens). Most DSLRs will be, but some high-end point-and-shoots (such as my Nikon P7100) have severely offset tripod sockets, requiring a work-around such as a dedicated quick-release L-bracket, which will have its own lens axis-centered tripod socket. Minor offsets are within the finder plate's adjustability range. Your viewing loupe can be quickly attached or removed. Included instructions are sketchy at best, but there's a good online tutorial on Hoodman's website. A beautiful product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hoodman HCP on Canon sx530 hs The product appears well made and well thought out. Despite my attempts before hand to verify that the HCP would fit on a Canon sx530 HS, I ordered it and found that it will not fit properly without modification to the bracket. Specifically, the right front bracket bumper comes into contact with the camera grip pulling the loupe away from the camera LCD on the opposite (left) side. Removal of the Right front bracket arm and bumper allows the loupe to line up with the camera LCD but the connection is not as sturdy. Also, the slide out arm that the loupe is connected to is a bit too long to allow the loupe to fully contact the camera LCD. I have not modified the bracket yet but will try that to see if I can get a suitable solution. Posting this incase any future buyers are considering this product for one of the full size Canon powershot cameras. It will not fit without some work.
