Canon BP-800 Series Overview

The Canon BP-828 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack works with the XF405, XF400, XA15, XA11, XA35, XA30, XA25, XA20, Vixia HF G50, Vixia HF G40, Vixia HF G30, Vixia HF G21, and Vixia GX10 camcorders. This replacement battery pack features a capacity of 2670mAh and 7.4V of output power. Small and lightweight, lithium-ion batteries can be charged or discharged at any time without developing a memory effect.

The battery takes about 405 minutes to charge via the camcorder and about 260 minutes when using an optional CG-800D battery charger. Charging time will vary depending on the charge state of the battery when you begin charging and the temperature. The battery should be charged at temperatures between 50 to 86°F, and it will not charge if the ambient or the battery pack's temperature is either colder than 32°F or higher than 104°F.

Buy this instead of the Watson alternative

I originally tried the cheaper Watson alternative for my Canon XA50. It was terrible so I returned it and bought this instead. I have no complaints! If you're thinking about any alternatives, forget them and just spend a little extra money and buy this instead. You don't want to have regrets during a shoot!

Best batteries for Canon video cameras.

These cost more than generic batteries... but these OEM batteries hold their charging power for a few years of heavy use, where the generic batteries usually go bad after a few months. OEM is also better for the health of the cameras. On a Canon XA10, a new BP-828 gives us 336 minutes of filming time (!!). In a Canon XA50, 225 minutes (!!). I'd say these batteries lose about 10-15% capacity every year and will last about 4-5 years of heavy use (every weekend). Well worth the investment.
