this lens has been around for about 10 years...but it is still made today..in fact i was on a waitlist because of its popularity...i bought this because it brought me back to the days of film...i love digital, but sometimes the look is too clinical...this lens gives the look i'm after...i have it on my fuji xt-5...plus it's light weight and super sharp...the complaint people had about the focus or aperture rubber rings being loose is unfounded now...i assume they fixed that after years of manufacturing...i also wanted the Zeiss pop and f1.8, it does not disappoint...

question
I don't see anywhere that it says the lens being sold is new. Is it new, sealed in the box and not a return or demo?
All items in our inventory would be new, unless clearly stated otherwise on the item's page. And for the most part, no used or refurbished items will come up in a search unless you are specifically looking in our Used Department. That being said, this Touit 32mm f/1.8 Lens (Sony E-Mount) is a new lens.

question
If I buy the lens today for my a6000, will it have the latest firmware or do I still have to send it to Zeiss? What's the latest firmware for the lens?
If that's the case then why would BH have this under the OVERVIEW?Supports Phase-Detection and Fast Hybrid AFThis lens has been updated with Version 02 firmware and supports the use of phase-detection AF and Fast Hybrid autofocus systems on Sony E-mount cameras.

question
Would this lens be okay to use for portraits on a Sony A-6000?
I would say it would depend on how close you are to your subject and the type of portraiture you are attempting to capture with the lens. While the Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 Lens is a good lens, due to the lens' focal length, the lens may slightly distort the proportions of the face if used too close to your subject while trying to capture a head-and-shoulders portrait. However, the lens would be fine for candid images or portraits showing some of the environment. Due to the 1.5x crop of the APS-C sensor used in the Sony Alpha A6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera, I would recommend a lens that has a focal length between 50mm - 135mm for the optimum portrait focal length range on the Sony A6000.

question
If used on a Sony A7, would this lens require the camera to be used in crop mode ?
You have the choice. You can use the lens on the camera and keep the full-frame aspect but with vignetting, or you can assign the camera to crop its sensor and optimize itself for use with this APS-C lens.

Will this lens work on an IR converted camera ...
Will this lens work on an IR converted camera without hotspots?
The ZEISS Touit lenses are designed for the visible spectrum only and are not optimized for the spectrum between 700nm and 1000nm. Our recommendation is to rent the lens and test it on an IR modified Sony E or Fujifilm X camera before committing.
