LensCoat LC200400 Reviews

Poorly designed

I needed some protection on this lens as I’ve already scratched the barrel and it’s going to be hired out. I knew from the other comments that it was far from perfect but it is almost unusable. I left off the strips off the zoom and focus ring as it was ridiculous to put something over them. I cut out the plastic windows also, as people mentioned, it makes it difficult to access the switches properly. (Of course this tears the stitching) One of the segments wasn’t even sewn together properly - ie, it didn’t line up and wasn’t flush with the section it was mounted on. - binned that part. The extender section is a joke. The hole provided barely clears the extender switch. The collar part is essentially “cut from a length of adhesive backed neoprene” to taste, and covers a 1.5- 2” section. The whole thing feels like sticking bandaids on a lens. Yes it will probably protect it. Yes I’ll probably bin it when I use it over time in the field. I wish there was a better alternative. Even a lens adhesive coating would work better than this neoprene Condom. I suspect it will be horrible when wet also, and will have to be removed as it will trap water against the lens.

Didn't last long

Unfortunately, mine didn't last very long. Stitching was poor, size was poor (too short to cover the hood), the cover near the 1.4 switch only lasted a few weeks, etc. For something over $100 it was a very poor purchase.

Not quite what I expected

I tried this on the Canon 200-400mm with the internal 1.4 TC. It's quite expensive for what it is. I didn't like the fact to operate the controls on the lens was awkward through the clear plastic covers. I sent it back and custom made my own.

4 little holes...

It's a perfect protection for your lenses but...LensCoat has forgotten (or omitted on purpose) four holes for the AF STOP buttons (second element after the hood). It is virtually impossible to feel those little buttons under the neoprene so I had to punch in the neoprene cover four little holes to reveal those controls.

Great !!

Fits first class and real save your expensive lens.Attention, when you also mount the coat over the zoom-ring so it can be sometimes not so easy to turn the zoom ring because the lenscoats brakes when it comes close together.

Close fit

This is my first LensCoat purchase and although I will use it on my Canon 200-400 1.4x, I believe the fit could be better. It's expensive for what it is but there's no alternative as far as I know.

Best Lens coat ever

I bought the LensCoat for the Canon 200-400 IS f/4 recently and I'm very happy with it. The lens cover was so easy to install and adjust it to the lens (200-400), I wonder why I didn't buy it before. The coat protect the whole lens, and includes transparent plastic parts to see the different buttons and the distance window. The material itself protects from small shocks and keeps your lens free of scratches et marks.

Works, but overpriced

It's really tough to come up with a shield for a lens with so many segments and moving parts, and LensCoat has done as good a job as one could do. The sleeve provides a first line of defense against minor or incidental scratches, but it is a thin layer. Until somebody figures out a better method, this is as good as it gets. For what they provide, it's overpriced, but the volumes on these big lenses is low, so maybe they can't do any better.
