As a sound recordist, this is truly the best stand on the market. The removable turtle base allows for easy transportation and the stainless steel design looks sleek and professional. Matthews is my go-to brand for grip products and crews enjoy the fact that I no longer need to bother them for C-Stands during interview shoots. A must-buy for all video professionals!

Well-built and not bulky

Several years ago, I owned a couple of C-stands from another brand, but found them to be quite bulky and heavy. The Matthews stand is lighter, knobs are more compact (but still very easy to use), all without any compromise on stability or load capacity. I now have six stands total: three of these 10.5' versions and three of the 5.25' versions. All are the C+ variants with turtle base. The stands are also very easy to maintain, and while I have not had to replace any parts yet, really happy that all parts can be obtained. The heaviest load I use these with comes to just under 19 lbs, so within the 22 lb maximum. Though with that load, I have not needed to extend the risers to their maximums.

What are the dimensions of the base when ...

What are the dimensions of the base when collapsed? I want to see if it will fit in a pelican case I already own.

I contacted Matthews concerning your inquiry. While they did not list the dimensions of the turtle base, they did state that they recommend the Pelican 1750 Long Case with Foam (Black), B&H # PE1750FB, for use with the Matthews Century C+ Stand with Removable Turtle Base, Black - 10.5'. It is the same case that is included with the purchase of the Matthews RoadRags C-Vival Kit - 18x24" (45.7x61cm), B&H # MARRCK, which includes the same light stand listed above.

How high is the tortoise base and how high is the center pole? I ask him why I have a small car and if the C-Stands Avenger Turtle Base C-Stand (9.8 ', Black) fits since the maximum height is 300 cm. These Matthews are 320cm tall and I wanted to be sure that they too can collapse and fit in my car.

The center post measures 116 cm. The armed and enlarged turtle base measures 30 cm high. The whole assembled C-stand makes the tortoise base eat 10cm out of the 116cm center post. So doing sums, you have a total height of 136 cm collapsed. I also have a small car, and disassembling the C-stand, it fits well and I have plenty of space.

Since the turtle base is removable, is the tall legs still able to go up and down the stand to accommodate standing on an uneven platform? It seem like it might not as the base is one assembly and the stand is another.

The C+ Stand does not have the sliding leg feature. This feature is available in the Sliding Leg C-Stand PN:756040

Yes, the Siros 800 can either be mounted to the back of the Grip Arm with its 5/8" receiver or onto a 6" Collared Pin inserted into the Grip Head Attached to the Arm. The weight of the unit is within the capacity of the Arm, be sure to properly weight the base of the stand.
