The TC-N1 Tripod Collar for Nikon 70-200mm f/4 G Lens from Vello is designed for the Nikon 70-200mm f/4 G telephoto lens and attaches directly to the lens to provide a stable and well-balanced mount when lens and camera are attached to tripod. The built-in tripod collar improves balance and reduces pressure on the lens mount when shooting with long lenses because it attaches directly to the lens. The ring design and thumbscrews make rotating your lens easier and vertical alignment marks help when changing the orientation from horizontal to vertical. With the included bushing, either a 3/8" or a 1/4" tripod mount can be used.

Improves Lens Balance
The collar and ring secure your lens directly to the camera's tripod.
Gives Your Camera Setup Better Balance
Due to the weight of a large lens, when the lens and camera are mounted on a tripod, the center of gravity is shifted to the lens. Placement of the collar on the lens allows the balance to be shifted for a more stable set up and to reduce strain on the camera mount.
Rotation
Having the camera secured with a ring around the lens makes it possible to rotate the lens between landscape and portrait modes without removing the camera from the tripod. The friction thumbscrews can then be tightened to secure the camera in the desired position. Thumbscrews make it easy to adjust the tripod ring on the go.
Removable
The collar can be easily removed so as not to get in the way when shooting without a tripod.
1/4"-20 Adapter
With the included bushing, either a 3/8" or a 1/4"-20 tripod mount can be used.

    TC-N1 Tripod Collar for Nikon 70-200mm f/4 G Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine for new 300 F4 PF VR lens! I bought this collar for use with my new Nikkor 300mm F4 AF-S PF ED VR lens, as it was less than 1/4 the cost of the Nikon collar, and it is pretty much a well-made knock-off of the Nikon one. It works perfectly with this lens, although this new diffractive optics Nikkor is so much shorter and lighter than the 300 f4 non-vr it updates that you really don't need the collar - I find the camera mount on my D800 to balance just fine with the new lens on. However there is an added benefit to the collar and that is the ability to swing the camera into portrait orientation very easily, while keeping the centre of gravity on top of the tripod in the same place as it was with the camera in landscape mode. This is a big plus, as it is similar to using an L-plate on your camera body. I am much more likely to try framing a shot in portrait mode , especially if I'm set up in running water, if I know the stability of my tripod/camera set up will be the same as it was when I set up in landscape mode first, and not suddenly moved to the side like when you change framing by using the tripod head. The collar is well made, fits well, holds my lens firmly, and allows the easy rotation of my framing while maintaining balance. In short, it does everything I want of it, and does it well, and does it at 1/4 the brand-name price. What's not to love? If you buy this lens, buy this collar, and put the money you save towards something else you know you need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I just received this collar and have been trying it out on my mono pod and tripod, What a great collar. I have seen the Nikon version and this collar leaves nothing more to be desired. Very firm grip, I cannot move the lens when it is tight. At least not the kind of pressure I would be comfortable with. It performs and has the same features of the Nikon version. Also had reference marks at horizontal and both 90 degree marks, right and left. Could not be more pleased. This deserves your attention, not to mention a price 1/3 of the Nikon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Collar I find the Vello collar to be very good operationally, and an excellent value. It is very steady in both landscape & portrait orientations, and balances well with my D7100 body. It is easily attached, removed or re-oriented (rolled) with a quick half-turn of the locking screw. I almost bought the more expensive Kirk collar, which is highly regarded by a friend of mine, but I'm glad to have discovered this gem at B&H. I highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well made and good fit I found several cheaper versions of this same size accessory collar online, but decided to go with the B&H offer ( by VELLO), and am quite pleased with how well if appears to be constructed. Ive read reviews of other brand collars not fitting well..THIS VELLO version fits nicely..and is certainly a better deal than Nikons $200 accessory. The area of the lens that allows for this collar, is fairly narrow, so This particular collar is not skimping on sizeit seems well machined and a snug enough fit to provide steady tripod shots. At about a $50 cost, it seems very adequate for the minimal use I will probably give it. The VR lens this collar is intended for, is already equipped with an excellent VR feature that almost makes the collar unnecessary, unless you are planning to use an extender.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job at about 1/3 the price of the Nikon Nikon packages their F-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/4 G ED VR Lens without a lens tripod collar. Although online commenters claim that the Nikon 70-200 f/4 does just fine without a lens collar, I wanted one for my lens for the ability to rotate my camera and lens from landscape to portrait while mounted on a tripod or monopod. The Vello TC-N1 is well made, easy to put on and take off and adds very little weight to the lens. And at 1/3 the price of the Nikon RT-1, it's a real bargain. When I first put it on the lens, I was afraid that it would be too loose, but it tightens up very snugly and firmly. Be aware that even though the footprint of the TC-N1 is 52mm X 38mm, because the proximal end of the foot is bevelled toward the front of the lens, you will need an arca swiss qr plate that is at least 65mm long. I purchased a Sunwayfoto DPG 62 lens plate for it and at 52 mm long, it is 2-3mm too short. Not a big deal. It works fine the way it is and is inexpensive, but if you're the type, like me, that obsesses about these things, keep this in mind.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid construction with one big miss This collar is constructed well, fits titghtly, and seems fully capable of supporting the lens robustly. It does have one big miss - only a single screw in the foot. When you attach and Arca Swiss plat over time it will loosen and start rotating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solidly Built Alternative to Nikon This is not a cheap knockoff but a well made and solid collar. All metal construction, and with a nice firm grip on the lens. I was a bit concerned about buying a non Nikon product, but this is a reasonably priced alternative to the high priced Nikon version. I would recommend it. My only concern is that it does restrict the use of the zoom ring, so I won't be keeping it on all the time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a nice collar but... This collar does not fit the nikon 300 pf ed lens as written in another review. I would recommend it for the lens it is designed for.
