    Canon BG-E14 reviews

BG-E14 Battery Grip for EOS 70D and 80D is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 130.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from battery grip allows tripod mounting 80D w/power zoom attach. I literally had to buy this attachment, not just to provide a long-term power source, but it was the only way for me to clear the body of my Canon EOS 80D (raise it up enough) so that the power zoom attachment for the zoom lens would clear the tripod plate. Without the battery grip, the camera can only be tripod-mounted at the very front of the tripod head. The power zoom attachment under the lens prevents the camera from being able to slide back to the center of the plate. With the battery grip, the camera can now move back to the center of the tripod plate and stay balanced on the tripod. One wonders why the zoom mechanism wasn't built into the camera itself.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great, except for fitting with Canon EF 70-200 mm lens I like the battery grip for my Canon 70 D. However, if I have my larger Canon EF 70-200 mm lens attached, and want to use my Manfrotto quick release on the barrel mount of lens, it doesn't fit. I read only one other reviewer that mentioned this problem (As a potential issue), however there is nothing in the specifications that indicate it's limited usage with the larger lenses and bayonet mounting. I find it disappointing, as many of you know, the EF 70-200mm lens is rocksolid and a standard go to, heavy enough to have the bayonet mount And rightfully so. I'm disappointed that this wasn't made more clear before I purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do I need this or do I not I deliberated on buying this product for months. Finally, I decided to get it based on enough comments from various sources that it would be useful. First, it is not 'welded' to the camera, meaning that I can put it on or take it off without difficulty. It certainly aids in taking vertical shots. It is bulky which alters how you hold the camera (left hand). I've had it mounted for only about a month - so limited experience so far - but I will probably get used to having it on as opposed to not. Finally, I only considered the Canon version though its much more expensive than others. The technical characteristics of it convinced me that Canon was the best choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The difference is immediately obvious Although this grip is tagged and sold for the Canon 70D, it also fits the new 80D perfectly. Initially I purchased a third party battery grip for my 80D because of the price difference but had to send it back. The fit and finish was terrible and electronically, it would not properly connect to the camera. I had read several reviews about third party grips damaging or destroying camera bodies so I decided to purchase the Canon branded product for nearly 4 times the price in order to protect my warranty. Boy am I glad I did! The Canon battery grip is absolutely perfect in all aspects...functionality, internal quality, external appearance, feel, comfort in the hand, weight and balance...everything! Take it from experience, go ahead, spend the extra money and get an item that is not counterfeit and matches that new camera perfectly. Besides, if something does happen, you're covered by your warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It!! I own an older EOSXsi that had a battery grip. It was so handy. I recently updated to the EOS80D. Great camera but sure missed my battery grip. I went to Canon store and chocked when I saw the price. Came to my trusted B&H website and searched for the BG-E14. It came up but did not show it was compatible with the EOS 80D. Went back to my manual to verify and it showed the same model number. B&H had it for $130 cheaper than Canon. Been using it for about 2 weeks now and it works great. I did have to purchase another battery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made product. If you're thinking about getting a battery grip for your 80D, I highly recommend the Canon grip. First you've already spent over a grand on your camera, not to mention even more for your lenses. Why go for a third party bargain basement products. I've heard numerous comments on third party grips not working well or not holding up to prolong usage. The Canon fits well and feels great in your hands. The rubbery grips perfectly matches your 80D grip and you know you have a quality product. It seems to balance your camera well especially when you have a larger lens on. It also works well when you want to shoot it in portrait mode with controls on the grip. The double battery certainly is a plus when you're shooting all day long. Sure, it costs more than third party grips but in a long run I think it's worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Choice The Canon Battery grip is a great addition to my 70D. It allows the camera to be better balanced in my hands with the weight of a longer lens or flash unit and the additional functionality of the increased battery capacity and controls for portrait orientated shots is great. Another surprise is that it will run the camera on just one of the E6 batteries even though it holds two. Converting to AA batteries gives me more power options for extended remote shooting. Great fit, finish and functionality I've grown to expect from Canon products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great on 70D. A must for video. I bought this so that when I upgrade to an 80D I'll have a compatible battery grip. Yesterday I did a 75 min shoot without having to change the battery. Didn't even have to think about it. Worked fine. Buttons are right where you'd expect them to be. On/of switch, of course. Prevents accidental triggering. There is a little place to store the camera's battery lid so that you won't lose it. Comes with two sleeves - one for Canon batteries and one for AA. Very sturdy and solid, but heavy - adds about a pound with the batteries in it, so I may not use it for wildlife/hiking. But well worth the price. Should have bought it two years ago.
