Matthews 259535 reviews

Apple Box Full - 20 x 12 x 8" (51 x 30.5 x 20.3 cm) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 164.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love these things! I bought 2 sets of apple boxes: (2) full, (2) half, 2(quarter), and (2) pancakes. I painted the full boxes plum, the half boxes a medium green, the quarter boxes light blue, and the pancakes orange. These apple boxes by Matthews are engineered and then built by a wood craftsman, so they are of the highest quality. I painted mine with sign paint by One Shot, which is a high quality enamel paint. With one set of apple boxes you can stack them in different combinations to reach any height up to 15.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very sturdy product The box is well built and sturdy. But, the name Matthew is in large letters on both sides of the box. They could have just done this on one side or made it smaller. If the box is present in an image I will have to Photoshop the name out. Otherwise, I'm happy with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price on ind standard full apple I'd never bought an apple box except locally, but with free shipping, it was a no brainer. It was still $-$ cheaper than the 2 places here that sell them. On top of that, since I'm not in NY, no sales tax.The Matthews boxes are my favorite, I like the build quality, and just because I have others, as well as used many others, I've just gotten really used to the oval handles and the space between the ovals (the handles) it feels familiar...I like it so much better than the rectangular handles, but that's probably just me. They're very sturdy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gone to the dogs! Like everyone else, I use it for adjusting heights of items/people I photograph. But even more importantly, it's great for adjusting MY height when I'm photographing subjects (dogs)on a table. I want to be eye level with my subjects. Rather than needing to squat, bend over, or sit on my knees, I use these apple boxes. Sitting on these gives me three different heights to choose from. No more aching back or legs = Happy Camper. Only MINOR down side is the wood isn't finished. Sprayed a matte finish clear coat to keep these babies looking pristine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful for studio and location work I've wanted an Apple Box for a few years for posing, elevating props in the studio and to stand on in a pinch. I finally bought the full box this month because I needed it to put on a stair in order to set a tripod leg on. My existing tripod didn't quite go tall enough. If you're shooting a group portrait, it's safe for a shorter person to stand on this in the back of the group. Just don't try to stand on it the (tall) 20 way under any circumstances. These are unfinished plywood, but can be painted or stained for a more polished look.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, versatile, attractive (when new!) Excellent posing tool in the studio. Very solid and strong, with a thick piece of wood inside in the center for increased rigidness and support. I bought several sizes, which gives me options for posing groups. Also works great for a model to place foot for variations of standing and sitting poses. The handles make life easy. I do wish these had been at least stained with something like Thompson's Water Seal, which I'm now going to take care of myself. The Thompson's should protect against some stains and, if they get wet outside, splitting and swelling to some extent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from cheaply made junk I truly can not wrap my head around the glowing reviews of these boxes. They are very cheaply made junk. - Finish is rough. No sanding has been done on the wood used in these boxes. The finish on this wood feels like it was never touched after leaving the lumberyard. Because is wasn't. - Hand holes are very rough. Stick your fingers in and don't be surprised if you get a splinter. The edges have not been routed at all. Additionally, they look like they've been drilled and cut out by a drunk 12 year old. Very sloppy quality. - Edges are not flush on many of the joints. - Finish nails used to hold these together are very sloppily applied. Not all of them even sit below the surface of the wood! Not all of them are centered in the joints--some serve no purpose since they don't even go through the edge of the adjoining board. Frankly, if you own a table saw and jig saw, go to your local lumber yard, get a 1/2 5x5 sheet of baltic birch plywood for $45 and make a complete set of your own bombproof apple boxes and pancake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, well made This apple box is just what I was looking for. I intend to use it as a posing prop for children and adults. It is sturdy and solid. The only thing I would change is that I do not care for the brand Matthews boldly branded on both sides. I stained my apple boxes with one coat of a nice, warm oak color, and they ended up with a pleasing weathered look. The name on the side blended in better, but I will have to do some cloning and patching in Photoshop to completely remove it. Overall very pleased with the product.
