Matthews Apple Boxes are some of the handiest tools to have on the set or in the studio. Use them for propping, leveling, standing or sitting; nail wall plates to them to hold low angle lighting fixtures. Precisely made, they are supported in the center, and are dimensionally correct.

I've ordered 4 full-size Matthews apple boxes and they've varied in quality. Some of the handle cutouts are nicely rounded, others have sharper edges that are uncomfortable to hold. A couple came already chipped. A couple rock noticeably on flat surfaces. Hasn't lived up to it's reputation to me so far.
A basic wooden box but this specimen seems to have been a Friday build, the joints along the long edge have gaps and thereâs quite a bit of putty in the corners, the inner of the box rattles around also.
