FotodioX FD-PK-PRO Reviews

Nice and sharp.

Really surprised with the result. Used an old FD lens on a Pentax k. Somewhat pricey but it is understandable due to the difficulty of adapting the two mounts. The results are very sharp. This was used on a Pentax k1 and will be used on film also. The images were Sharp. I was somewhat surprised that a push pull legacy 100 to 300 mm Canon lens would produce some usable results. My father had bought the lens in the early 1980s and literally never used it. It is nice to see it getting used. Very happy with this mount.

It works well with some lenses such as Cannon FD 50mm prime, Bushnell FD 28mm prime and Bushnell FD 135mm prime to the point where these 1970's era lenses rival their modern equivalents. But, despite the premium price it won't react well to every lens you try for example a Bushnell 90230mm lens fails to achieve infinity focus and shows distortion with this adapter. Expect it too work excellently with about 80% of the lenses out there. Fotodiox technical support had the following to say about this adapters: Glass adapters can sometimes degrade the image quality of the lens; because you are adding a piece of optic glass that is not specifically designed for that particular lens, sometimes there can be an adverse reaction in the optics. This can cause soft focus, chromatic aberration, image artifacts, etc. Basically if their's even a minor flaw in the lens even a lack of interior coating this flaw will be amplified by the adapter. * warning: mind the paint on this adapter its fragile and prone to chipping if mishandled, it can be easily damaged by a fingernail especially on the interior areas.

Do we loose one aperture, like with a 1.4x tele-extender?

There is a loss of one (1) stop. It with electronic meters is is less an issue as it would be with an all manual camera. Bump up your camera's ISO 2x from what it is now to use this adapter.

question

I have a pentax k1000 SLR and my dad gave me his old Canon FD 50mm 1:1.8 S.C. lens. I would love to use this. Will this fit my Pentax?
Asked by: Kyle R.
Yeah. As long as it is an fd to a pentax k bayonet it should work. I have a similar canon fd manual lens 50mm 1:1.4 and it works fine. it is a bit confusing at first but mount the adaptor to the lens and make sure the canon lens is NOT locked in its auto setting on it's aperture ring. If you don't, the adaptor won't go on. Since its a manual lens you also have to do stopped down photography. It takes some adjusting but you get used to it.
