With every advancement in hardware or design, there are bound to be a few tradeoffs, so we rely on companies to stay on their toes and create solutions to problems we didn’t have before. The Apple MacBook Pro (and Air), which only has Thunderbolt™ 3 ports, features a slim, compact design that we’ve come to expect in modern-day portables. No longer are we bound by phonebook-sized laptops weighing well over eight pounds, though the compromise here is the lack of connectivity options. Don’t get me wrong because Thunderbolt™ 3 and USB Type-C are both great technologies for a one-port-for-everything kind of job, but in most cases, this likely means you’ll need a separate hub to get more done.
Starting with its design, the Linedock Docking Station features a similar footprint to your 13.3" MacBook with matching colors of Space Gray or Matte Black. It’s equipped with three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C ports, an HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, and an SD media card reader, but it doesn’t stop there. The linedock also has a 20,000 mAh built-in battery, as well as expandable SSD storage. Select models even come with a SATA III SSD pre-installed (256GB or 1TB). Short of an Ethernet port, the linedock simplifies your everyday carry items (computer-wise, of course) by bundling them all into a single device.
The linedock can be charged with a regular Type-C laptop charger and supports up to 100W of pass-through charging. Its Type-C connections feature Power Delivery 2.0 for up to 60W of power output, capable of fully charging your MacBook Pro in three hours. On the other hand, the Type-A ports are equipped with Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 for up to 12W of power. Even though the linedock has three video-out connections including USB Type-C, it can only be used with one 4K 60 Hz display at a time.
