The original Sony Walkman revolutionized the way we listened to music, but listening to your favorite tunes on the go just isn't the novelty it was way back in 1979. You might be surprised to hear that the Sony Walkman is still being produced, and just like before, it's revolutionizing the way we listen to music.
Sony has announced the new lineup of the Walkman portable digital media player with three models, all capable of delivering exceptionally clear and expansive audio in 384 kHz/32-bit PCM quality and up to 11.2-MHz DSD audio, along with a suite of processing and phase linearization that can emulate the surface noise and tone-arm resistance of vinyl, or emulate various types of analog amplifiers, coloring the sound to your taste.
The build on all three is luxurious, featuring touchscreens, crystal oscillators for precise clocking, gold-infused soldering for better conductivity, and high-quality material for the body. All have Wi-Fi capability for streaming from any major platform and support High-Resolution Audio, LDAC, Bluetooth, and aptX adaptive. All models have a microSD card slot for expanded memory.
The Sony NW-ZX900 Walkman is the "entry-level" model—but don't think that means you aren't getting a beast of a listening device. The ZX900 has a smaller 5" screen, 64GB of memory, a different style chassis, 40 hours of battery life, and DSD playback only capable when plugged into the 4.4mm balanced output connection.
The 128GB NW-WM1AM3 Walkman is the "middle option," while the 256GB NW-WM1ZM3 Walkman is the flagship "signature series" model. Both have an exceptional build quality with a gold-plated chassis and a larger 5.5" screen, but a bit less battery life—rated at 33 hours.
The new Sony Walkman lineup is the best sounding, most capable portable digital media player on the market today.
