Those Are Pocket Operators—and We’re Happy to See Them!

Teenage engineering Pocket Operators are a perennial favorite of on-the-go hardware synth programmers, because their simple interface, battery operation, and panoply of good sound make them ideal for mobile music making. Here are three more models for you to sink your teeth into (not literally, of course, unless you want to be chewing on circuit boards).

teenage engineering PO-33 KO Pocket Operator Micro Sampler

First is the PO-33 Micro Sampler. This li’l unit carries 40 seconds of sample memory and a built-in microphone for recording anything you can hear. Eight melodic slots are on hand, as are eight drum slots, all of which you can manipulate with 16 effects. Make up to 16 patterns with the 16-step sequencer and monitor through the onboard speaker, or with any pair of 3.5mm-terminating headphones.

teenage engineering PO-35 Speak Pocket Operator Vocal Synthesizer

Next, we have the PO-35 Vocal Synthesizer, which carries 120 seconds of sample memory, the same built-in mic for recording, and some of the same capabilities of most pocket operators, like sequencing, Jam-sync, and compatibility with the Microtonic stand-alone app/plug-in. Add eight voice characters and eight effects, and you have a neat little unit in your hands.
