Sennheiser has announced the release of the new Spectera SKM handheld audio transceiver, which, when paired with the Spectra Base Station, can facilitate easy multi-microphone wireless connections for live music, theater, and broadcast productions. The Spectera SKM handheld transceiver shares the same functionality as the Spectera SEK body pack transceiver, now in a handheld microphone form factor.
In the past, a performer would need to use two separate components for wireless amplification: a wireless transmitter (for the microphone or instrument) and a receiver (for in-ear monitors or IEMs).
The transceiver is a portmanteau—the Spectra SKM is bidirectional, combining both functions into a single device!
With the Sennheiser SKM, audio routing and parameters (gain and lowcut) can be controlled remotely, giving the production team immediate flexibility and enhanced control of any situation. If you add the separately available Sennheiser SKM COM Command Adapter, the performer will have access to push-to-talk/talkback functionality for direct communication with the production crew, along with a cough switch that will instantly mute the microphone.
The Sennheiser SKM features lightweight robust aluminum housing, is compatible with many different Sennheiser and Neuman microphone capsules, and comes in either a UHF or 1G4 frequency range with WMAS (Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems) that can block up with up to 64 other Spectera devices simultaneously, so you don’t have to worry about calculating any intermodulation between different microphones.
If you’re producing a large-scale production with numerous wireless microphones, know that the Sennheiser Spectera SKM is changing the game. Check out the product page or reach out to a pro audio expert at B&H for more information!
