B&H Photo News Roundup: Week of May 18, 2025

We are just under a month out from BILD expo and all of the speakers, events, and experiences are live on the BILD website! We can’t wait to see you there. While we eagerly await your visit, let’s get into this week’s news roundup. FUJIFILM presented us with the X half Digital Camera, a half-frame shooting machine for film lovers. Additionally, Godox released mini flashes, Harlowe gave us new versions of their RGB lights, and Sony introduced a new wireless shooting grip.

FUJIFILM Translates Half-Frame Film to Digital

Equipped with a 1” sensor, compact size, and film simulation modes to evoke analog shooting, the FUJIFILM X half Digital Camera gives you the best of both worlds without burning through film rolls. The X half’s 1” sensor is oriented vertically to capture 18MP 3:4 stills and video. Its onboard controls like film advance lever, exposure compensation dial, lens aperture ring, and rear touchscreen allow you maximum control over manual settings and advanced shooting modes.

Record in Film Camera Mode and choose a specific digital “roll” of film with 36, 54, or 72 frames that only become “developed” using the FUJIFILM app or transferring the files to your computer. In this mode the rear LCD becomes a frame counter with AF/MF toggle, an option to imprint a timestamp, and a zone focusing scale. Exert creative control over your images using the 13 distinct Film Simulation modes, including Classic Chrome, black-and-white Acros, and ultra-vibrant Velvia. You can also add 26 different filters on top of the simulations to further customize your final product.

A benefit of half-frame photography is the ability to display two frames next to one another, ultimately taking up one full frame. The X half mimics this technique with a 2-in-1 function for in-camera diptych creation of both photo and video content.

The X half comes equipped with a fixed aspherical 10.8mm f/2.8 lens with a 32mm equivalent focal length. Its wide field of view ensures you don’t miss any of the action no matter what content you’re capturing. A manual aperture ring with an “A” position makes it easy to transition from manual adjustments to shutter-speed priority or program exposure modes. Other integrated features of the camera include a built-in flash for low-light shooting and a built-in stereo mic for audio capture.

In other news…

  • Godox released its new, highly portable iT30Pro TTL flashes. Available in models designed for Nikon, Olympus/Panasonic, Sony, FUJIFILM, and Canon camera, the flash supports camera-specific protocols. It can be used as either a transmitter or receiver unit with its built-in 2.4 GHz wireless frequency. Choose between automatic and manual controls depending on the needs of your shoot or your experience level.

  • Harlowe upgraded some of their most popular lights, giving us the Mini II and Sol 5 Spectra. The Mini II increases the light output over its predecessor to 1800 lumens and lasts 20% longer. The Sol 5 Spectra maintains the smartphone-compatible design of the previous model while adding RGBCW capabilities for 36,000 colors.

  • Sony gave us the GP-VPT2BTD Wireless Shooting Grip with Detachable Remote for improved control over your camera in handheld shooting configurations. The grip works as both a selfie stick and a tabletop tripod and offers wireless control with select Sony camera models via Bluetooth and its detachable remote control. Start/stop recording, control zoom and focus, and even utilize a customizable function button depending on your own needs.
