Canon wants to make it easy to find a printer that is just right for your home or small office with today’s release of multiple PIXMA TS- and TR-series all-in-one models. These new printers are designed to be compact so that you can easily add them to your cramped desk or home setting. Also, the TS-series, which includes the TS9120, TS8120, TS6120, TS5120, and TS3120, features print, scan, and copy functions for everyday tasks, while the TR8520 and TR7520 step up by adding faxing to the mix for those who need to send documents while working at home. And, as a bonus, most of the printers are available in multiple colors so you can pick up one that matches your current décor.
Brand new to the PIXMA line is the TR series, starting out with the TR8520 and TR7520, both of which are all-in-ones complete with print, scan, copy, and fax functions. They are both fully connected, as well, with USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy to help you get set up with everything from a smartphone to a workstation. They both also utilize a 5-color ink system and 100-sheet front and rear paper trays for general handling of documents and photos from 4 x 6" up to 8.5 x 14" in size. The units come equipped with an 8.5 x 11.7" flatbed for scanning and copying, and a 20-sheet automatic document feeder to help batch process some items. Additionally, printing is quite good, with a resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, speeds of up to 15 ipm in black and 10 ipm in color, and automatic duplexing support. While the printers handle very similarly, the TR8520 does offer some notable improvements over its sibling, including a 4.3" touchscreen compared to a 3" screen, an SD memory card slot, and Ethernet connectivity.
Leading the TS-series are the TS9120 and TS8120, both fully featured units with printing, scanning, and copying that feature the latest ink innovation from Canon in the form of a Photo Blue tank. When combined with the other 5 colors of the 6-color ink system, these printers will be able to create vivid imagery that is free from noise. Much like the TR-series, these models offer USB, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity along with the same printing speeds and resolution. They manage to offer a smaller design more suited to a home by eliminating the fax machine and ADF and an auto-expandable output tray lets it remain at the ready always. A feature unique to these models is the ability to print on discs, using an included tray. Additionally, the TS9120 offers advantages with a 5" LCD touchscreen versus a 4.3" screen and it has built-in Creative Filters.
If all this is unnecessary for you, the TS6120 sits just below the TS8120 and offers a more modest feature set. This includes print resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi, the removal of Ethernet connectivity, a smaller 3" touchscreen, and a bump down to a simpler five-color ink system. And, if you are still overwhelmed by the number of features, you can move to the TS5120, which uses a different, and much more simplified two-cartridge FINE Hybrid Ink System. This model offers a print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi and features a conventional control panel with buttons alongside a 2.5" LCD. It works at speeds of up to 7.7 ipm in black and 4 ipm in color.
Finally, rounding out the TS series is the entry-level TS3120. This model is the lightest and most compact, meaning it can squeeze into small rooms or on your desk more easily. Much like the TS5120, it has a simple FINE Hybrid Ink System that can deliver resolutions of 4800 x 1200 dpi and speeds of 7.7 ipm in black and 4 ipm in color. Also, it features a 60-sheet rear paper tray and has a 1.5" segment LCD for displaying status and settings. Additionally, it has USB 2.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity options for wired and wireless setups.
If you are in the market for a new printer, or even your first printer, Canon’s latest offerings are certainly worth a look, due to their compact, stylish designs and impressive feature sets.
