The wait is over for a DX-format mirrorless camera, with the newly announced Nikon Z50. Super compact and easy to use, the Z50 is perfect for travel, family, and everyday carry. The ability to record 4K UHD video, edit in-camera, and share content directly to smartphones makes it an ideal choice for social media users looking to upgrade from their phones.
The Z50 packs an exceptionally capable 20.9MP DX CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 engine into Nikon’s smallest interchangeable lens DX-format camera to date. Combined with its Z-mount design, it enters the market with a wide selection of lenses to maximize its potential. Additionally, two new lenses will accompany the Z50 into the DX world: the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR Lens and the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR Lens. Together, the two zooms cover an impressively wide focal range for photographers getting started with Nikon mirrorless.
Nikon put a lot of thought into the creative workflow of on-the-go social media posters when designing this camera. Its touchscreen LCD can be flipped down 180 degrees to activate Self Portrait Mode when taking selfies, vlogging, or checking for spinach in your teeth. Speaking of vlogging, its ability to record 4K UHD and Full HD 1080p 120 fps slow-motion video provides a variety of creative possibilities, and a 3.5mm mic input allows you to incorporate your favorite microphone.
You can even edit your footage, apply creative filters, and include special effects in camera. Once you have your content the way you want it, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth makes sharing to your smart device easy via Nikon’s SnapBridge app. You can even use your phone as a remote monitor and make adjustments through the app when using the Z50.
A durable build with weather sealing means you can take the Z50 practically anywhere with confidence. Eye-AF keeps images sharp and focused when making portraits while Silent Photography Mode is ideal when working in a quiet environment—or on the sly. Its high-resolution EVF can preview creative picture modes and effects in real time so you know exactly what your image will look like as you take it. This is very helpful when shooting continuously at up to 11 fps. Additionally, touch-to-focus capabilities on the rear LCD provides a familiar means of image capture for those accustomed to smartphone image capture.
The Z50 will be available as a body only, in a kit with the DX 16-50mm lens, or in a kit with both the 16-50mm and 50-250mm lenses.
The Z50 announcement is accompanied by the official release of the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct Lens. The fastest NIKKOR lens to date, this manual focus full-frame Z-mount lens will certainly get the attention of photographers searching for extreme depth-of-field control, low-light performance and, of course, bokeh. Also being released is the MB-N10 Multi-Power Battery Pack for the Z 6 and Z 7. This battery grip will hold two EN-EL15b batteries for increasing operating time by 1.8x. It is also just as durable as the Z 6 and Z 7 and works with USB charging using the EH-7P Charging AC Adapter.
