For those who want a powerful pocket camera for their latest adventure, as well as the everyday, Sony has released the Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 Digital Camera, a compact point-and-shoot that boasts a small but versatile Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 30x optical zoom equivalent from 24-720mm. This means you can easily carry a high-quality imaging tool for photographing wide vistas, distant exotic animals, or your kid’s soccer game without taking up much more room than a smartphone. Another distinct feature of this model is a pop-up 0.2" OLED Tru-Finder EVF with 638k-dot resolution for comfortable eye-level viewing and a 180-degree tilting 921k-dot LCD for selfies.
Ensuring maximum image quality, the DSC-HX80 has a 18.2MP 1/2.3" Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor that pairs with a BIONZ X image processor to offer notable image clarity with low noise levels, along with an expandable sensitivity range to ISO 12800 and continuous shooting of up to 10 fps. Full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording is supported in 60p, 60i, as well as 24p frame rates, and the high-quality 50 Mbps XAVC S format can be used in addition to the standard AVCHD format. Also, 5-axis Optical SteadyShot image stabilization works for stills and video to minimize the effect of camera shake on your images, which is especially useful at telephoto focal lengths.
Like all the latest tech these days, the DSC-HX80 comes with Wi-Fi and NFC technology built in to enable direct connection to smartphones and tablets. The camera is designed for ease of use and control, offering a variety of automatic modes in addition to your standard PASM settings. Autofocus has also been upgraded with a Lock-On AF setting to track and keep the subject in focus even as they are in motion. Additionally, the body has a durable grip for great handling and shooting stability.

Is it possible to attach a filter to the lens of the Sony DSC-HX8 via extender tube?? If not, what other similar cameras come with that feature?
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though there is a filter adapter for the DSC-HX80 Point-and-Shoot. I can’t think of a compact super zoom that would have the ability to use a filter. If you don’t mind a point and shoot that is a bit larger, a filter could be used on Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX400V Digital Camera. The HX400V can use 55mm filters and has 50X optical zoom lens.
Does the HX80 provides the shoting still image while recording a movie?
How many still image could be shot?
Hi Shihming -
Although SONY could not confirm, we physically checked our floor display model and can verify that photos cannot be taken while shooting video.
