Voigtländer has brought a bit more speed to its line of normal, yet unique, 40mm offerings for Leica M-mount cameras, with the official release of the Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens, the manufacturer’s fastest 40 yet. Boasting an ultra-fast f/1.2 maximum aperture, this optic can create images with exceptionally shallow depth of field, as well as permit usage in low-light conditions. Designed for M-mount cameras, this all-manual lens is rangefinder coupled, allowing for accurate focus down to 2.3' with optical systems while the lens can still focus to 1.6' for added versatility when using digital focusing aids. Furthermore, the optical design incorporates two aspherical elements to minimize aberrations and enhance overall resolution and clarity. On top of this, the lens uses a 10-blade diaphragm for smooth bokeh. Released alongside the lens is a new metal shoe-mounted viewfinder so that you can compose your shots more easily. It features a reverse Galileo Albada design and has a 0.81x magnification for clear viewing. Also, it features bright lines for the 40mm field of view on a full-frame camera.
