Gitzo Launches a New 3-Way Fluid Head

Gitzo has updated, improved, and re-invented its classic 3-way tripod head. The new Gitzo 3-Way Fluid Head is designed for photographers looking for the precision that ball heads rarely offer, with the controlled and fluid movements of a geared head without the size and weight of that type of support. Fluid heads are usually found in the video support world but, here, Gitzo brings the technology to the still photographer for a very versatile system that is equally adept at landscape, long-exposure, still life, architecture, and portrait photography.

Improvements over the previous version included a smaller size, lighter, improvements in the fluid movements and smoothness, a new quick-release adapter, and Arca-type compatibility. Independent fluid cartridges for each head ensure no stick-slip movements. The new head is made of ultra-light magnesium and checks in at 2.11 lb, yet has a working payload capacity of 28.6 lb. Redesigned retractable ergonomic handles help make the 3-Way Fluid Head travel and adventure friendly.

In addition to an updated quick-release adapter, the head features a 90° rotatable plate that allows quick switching from portrait to landscape configurations and is designed to maintain clearance from collisions with the tripod spider on Gitzo tripods, including the Systematic, which has a larger chassis. A smart rotating spirit level allows precise leveling in either portrait or landscape setup.

The Gitzo 3-Way Fluid Head is available on its own, or in a kit, with a Mountaineer Series 2 tripod.
