DPA has built a global reputation for producing some of the highest-performing microphones on the market. The company continues to innovate with its announcement of CORE+, a brand-new technology that will gradually be implemented into a wide range of DPA models. With CORE+, the brand promises to further reduce distortion throughout the entire dynamic range of its microphones to an essentially imperceptible degree, setting a new standard in microphone clarity and openness.

CORE+ redefines DPA’s microphone capabilities by eliminating the non-linearities typically created by the membrane and the electronic elements of a microphone. As a result, these redesigned models ensure an effectively distortion-free audio experience with a remarkable level of precision and detail in sound reproduction, especially with respect to miniature condenser microphones.

DPA’s previous CORE technology is already a tough act to follow, allowing mics to handle higher sound pressure levels with minimal artifacts up to 1% THD. Now, CORE+ practically eliminates those artifacts entirely. And DPA claims that the difference is not only technically measurable but also audible.
The CORE+ iteration of the industry standard DPA 4060 omnidirectional lavalier microphone is a prime example of what the technology can achieve. The 4060 CORE+, designed for standard speech in broadcast, performance and theater environments, features a capsule that can handle levels up to 128 dB SPL RMS and 131 dB peak before producing < 1% distortion.
In fact, even at peak screaming levels up to 134 dB, the 4060 CORE+ exhibits only up to about 10% distortion, making it a notably safe choice for amplifying or recording all types of speakers and performers, as well as in situations where vocals can greatly fluctuate in volume. For sound engineers managing stage environments that call for multiple microphones and variety of talent, this is especially good news. When multiple microphones are in play, sound capture will not only remain consistently clean but will also enhance the overall transparency and openness of the entire sound image.

DPA plans a gradual release across its range of mics. The first models to be addressed are the 5mm omnidirectional headsets and lavaliers, including the 4060, 4061, and more. Following this, the brand will be releasing upgraded versions of their miniature cardioid microphones, such as the 4088, 4188 and 4288, as well as the 4166 and 4062 omnidirectional mics.
Finally, all microphones that employ CORE+ will retain the same specifications, including dynamic range and noise level. Since the new microphones will share the same sonic qualities of previous versions, current users will be able to easily mix the CORE+ models with the DPA mics they already own.
