Keeping it 100 with the TC Electronic M100 Effects Processor

0Share

For years, TC Electronic has been widely known for its hardware digital effects processors, from the TC2290 delay to the studio classic M3000 reverb to the high-end System 6000. The common bond throughout TC Electronic’s line of processors is their consistent quality and versatility. When it comes to hardware effects, people are accustomed to giving up quite a bit of physical space to accommodate enough devices for a usable variety of complex processors. However, free space and time for many devices are not always available. Enter the TC Electronic M100, a compact stereo multi-effects device designed for use on miscellaneous instruments and vocals in studio and live stage applications. It fits 16 award-winning TC effects into a box smaller than a half-rack unit, and it does so without the use of menus and pages upon pages of parameters. It’s simple, it’s small, it’s effective.

The 16 effects include individual programs such as reverb and delay, combo effects such as chorus plus reverb, and special effects such as reverse reverb and pitch shift. Each preset effect is clearly labeled (no wacky abbreviations here) and is selectable via a large rotary pot. A nearby button offers two functions, Tap and Select. The Tap function is especially helpful for nailing the tempo of your delays or the rate of modulation effects. The Select function allows you to select between two predetermined parameters for specific effects. For example, when using a reverb preset, pressing Select will enable you to control either the reverb time or brilliance setting. Turn the dedicated Parameter knob to adjust the selected parameter. Continuing the theme of simplicity, you’ll find a row of controls for input and output levels and dry/wet balance. Quickly compare your original source to the processed signal via a 1/4" footswitch (available separately) or the front-panel Bypass button. There are LED indicators for bypass status, input level, and signal overload.

I/O jacks are available on the back panel. The stereo 1/4" TRS inputs accept balanced and unbalanced cables, ensuring compatibility with budget mixers and high-end studio gear. Though stereo operation is typically preferred, the M100 supports use in mono via the left input. Its stereo outputs are impedance-balanced 1/4" TRS jacks. A/D and D/A conversion occurs at 24-bit with 128x oversampling and a 48 kHz sampling rate. The M100’s frequency response extends from 22 kHz down to 10 Hz, which means that you can add effects to heavy sub-bass without sacrificing your low end.

To wrap up all this information in a neat little box, TC Electronic has combined stereo operation, essential and special effects, and efficient controls in a compact and affordable desktop unit. Stop by the B&H SuperStore or head to our website to check out the M100!
