Moog Announces the Muse: A New Analog Bi-Timbral Polyphonic Synthesizer

The Moog Muse, the latest analog polysynth from legendary brand Moog, has arrived at last. Intended for modern musicians, producers and sound designers on stage and in the studio, the Muse is an intuitive, powerful analog bi-timbral polyphonic synthesizer that combines some of Moog’s most classic designs with its latest concepts and features.

The Muse employs eight analog voices, each with two VCOs, a modulation VCO, dual VCF’s and a stereo VCA. A blend of classic Moog designs paired with forward-thinking controls, the Muse merges the brand’s best vintage circuits inspired by Moog Voyager oscillators, MF-102 Ring Modulator, CP3 Mixer, 902 VCA module, and a 904a Filter.

The Muse is designed to remove friction from the creative process with its performance-leaning controls, intuitive knob per function layout, and simple yet comprehensive menu functions, allowing you to instinctively move from thought to formation. The 61 full-size, semi-weighted Fatar keybed with velocity and aftertouch is complimented by a left-hand controller with pitch and mod wheels, as well as a programmable Macro knob to make the Muse naturally playable.

The Muse boasts 16 banks of 16 patches with a generous selection of sounds from majestic pads, organic FM plucks, massive leads, and subterranean basses. The keyboard can also be split and layered allowing you to create and experiment with two sounds at once.

Aside from its spontaneous approach to music creation, the Muse’s advanced arpeggiator spurs exploration of new melodic ideas with unique patterns and rhythms. With Muse’s 64-step sequencer, you can discover and build intriguing layers and gestures, and craft and modulate on the fly with its parameter recording feature. Add to that chord memory, generative/probabilistic functions, and detailed editing of every note in the sequence, and the Muse not only allows you to discover virtually endless sonic possibilities but also arms you with ample tools to realize your ideas.

Other most notable features include the stereo Diffusion Delay processor, which draws from golden era vintage digital rack delays. With a distinctive and robust set of diffusion, multitap, and filter behaviors, one can craft complex echoes and diffused tonal nuances to add color and depth to any patch. Also worth mentioning, is the CP3-style saturating mixer per-voice that allows you to create either a clean or saturated sound that adds harmonic richness to your mixes.

In terms of connectivity, you’ll also have all the options we’ve come to expect from a modern synthesizer. The rear panel offers ¼ inch main outputs, sustain and expression pedal inputs, CV and analog clock inputs and outputs and midi connectivity, including a USB-A connector for linking to other instruments with Muse as the MIDI host. Finally, the headphone output is intelligently located on the front edge of the left-hand controller.

The Moog Muse, weighing 32 pounds, ships with an IEC power cable, quick start guide, registration card and safety and warranty manual.
