Roli has announced two new members of the Blocks modular music making system, the Seaboard Block and the Touch Block. Blocks is a versatile music making system, for beginners who have never taken a music lesson, to professionals who want to shape sound in new ways. The current lineup of modules includes the Lightpad, Loop, and Live Blocks, which offer a tactile control surface, basic transport controls, and live performance controls, respectively.
The Seaboard Block borrows the same form and function as its larger compeers, the Rise and Grand instruments, but in a smaller form factor that integrates perfectly into the Block universe. The Seaboard Block offers the same five dimensions of touch including Strike, Glide, Slide, Press, and Lift. The interface offers a 24-keywave, two-octave playing surface. The controller ships with a suite of software, including NOISE and Equator player, which boasts hundreds of cutting edge sounds, and the Block Dashboard, which enables the controller to be used with other programs like Logic Pro X or Ableton Live.
The Touch Block is the same size as the Loop and Live Blocks and provides easy, real-time control over the responsiveness of Roli’s 5D Touch gestures. The unit allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the touch gestures, lock strike and glide settings to a fixed value, and initiate Piano Mode, which removes all touch response except for strike (velocity), enabling the Block to respond like a traditional piano.
