Over the last several years, Shure has delivered an incredible array of dual-diaphragm dynamic mics to musicians and engineers, so it makes sense the legendary mic manufacturer would apply some of that R&D to a condenser model. Behold the SM4 Home Recording Microphone, a cost-effective cardioid condenser aimed at musicians and content creators looking for a dependable all-around workhorse microphone that can handle a wide range of vocals and instrumental duties.
The 1" brass dual-diaphragm true-condenser capsule is engineered to consistently reproduce every element of your performance with remarkable accuracy and exceptional low-frequency control. It can handle SPLs up to 140 dB, allowing you to even use it on loud instruments like drums, horns, and guitar amps. The uniform cardioid polar pattern provides a solid degree of off-axis rejection, helping to reduce peripheral noise, while Shure's patent-pending Interference Shielding Technology blocks RF interference, ensuring you don't pick up unwanted noise from your studio gear and electronic toys. The internal pop filter and woven mesh faraday cage protect the mic element and minimize plosives (Ps and Ts).
The Sm4 is available as stand-alone mic or as a part of the comprehensive SM4 Home Recording Kit that includes a magnetic pop filter, shockmount, and a carrying case (all available separately as well). Housed in an elegant and durable low-profile cast-zinc chassis, the SM4 connects to a wide range of professional audio equipment via its 3-pin XLR connector and requires 48V phantom power to operate.
