Shure Announces Nexadyne Vocal Microphones with Revonic Technology

The good folks at Shure know a thing or two about microphones. Not only did they invent the most popular stage vocal mic of all time, the SM58, but the SM7B is still considered by many to be the gold standard for broadcasting. So naturally, B&H was very excited to hear about Shure’s newest series of vocal performance mics, the Nexadyne 8/C cardioid and 8/S supercardioid microphones.

Revonic Microphone Technology

What makes the Nexadynes so special is Shure’s Revonic mic capsule, which uses two precisely paired dynamic transducers working together and wired out of phase to cancel out mechanical vibrations and effectively remove self-noise.

Now, you’re probably thinking, “But isn’t the Shure KSM8 a dual-diaphragm dynamic mic?” Yes, but the KSM8’s two diaphragms are positioned within a single transducer. The Revonic design, on the other hand, features a dual-transducer microphone element. The upper engine captures the signal with increased isolation and clarity, while the lower engine provides additional acoustic response and cancels out unwanted noise signals. The result is a dynamic microphone that reproduces a natural and vivid vocal sound that will fill every corner of the venue with a detailed high-end clarity similar to what you’d expect from a studio condenser.

Choose Between Cardioid and Supercardioid

Shure engineered two versions of the Nexadyne mic. The 8/C model features a forgiving cardioid polar pattern, while the 8/S model is a narrowly focused supercardioid version, a smart choice for when you want to isolate your vocals from other sources and eliminate feedback from on-stage monitors.

Live sound engineers will appreciate that both Nexadyne mics deliver a robust signal that sounds great without requiring copious amounts of EQ and filtering. Each mic features a discreet black finish with the capsule protected by a hardened, dent-resistant grille ready to withstand the rigors of daily stage performance. However, the grille is replaceable—in case your vocalist gets exceptionally abusive. Each mic ships with a clip adapter and a zippered carrying case that can also be replaced if lost or damaged.

In addition to the handheld XLR versions, the microphone capsules are also available for any of Shure’s handheld wireless transmitters that support interchangeable capsules, including the Axient Digital, ULX-D, QLX-D, and SLX-D series.
