Solid State Logic Releases Desktop USB Audio Interfaces with Software

Announced just prior to the NAMM 2020 show, Solid State Logic's new compact and competitively priced desktop audio interfaces are destined to be a hit among producers, home recordists, musicians, and songwriters. The 2-in / 2-out SSL 2 and the 2-in / 4-out SSL 2+ USB audio interfaces put legendary SSL analog character, pristine conversion, and intuitive workflow within reach for creators and collaborators on a tight budget.

The two interfaces share much common ground, from their form factor and appearance, to their analog circuitry and 24-bit / 192 kHz AKM converters. Both boast two SSL-designed mic preamps with class-leading gain, headroom, and noise specs and XLR-1/4" combo mic/line/instrument inputs. Achieving ultra-clean definition is no problem for these pres. When you do want some character and pizzazz for an input, simply press that channel's "Legacy 4K" button. Doing so will add a high-frequency boost and smooth harmonic distortion, both inspired by the classic and heralded 4000-Series consoles used on countless hit records. Each input channel—arranged vertically like a large-format mixing board—also provides 5-segment LED metering and selectable 48V phantom power.

The rear panels are where the two interfaces start to differ. The SSL 2 keeps it nice and simple by presenting a pair of monitor outputs and a high-current headphone out with high dynamic range, independent level control via Alps pots, and an adjustable monitor mix control. The SSL 2+ tacks on quite a bit more with a second independent headphone output for multiple cue mixes, four unbalanced RCA outputs, and 5-pin MIDI I/O for hooking up external synths and keyboard controllers.

Included are 1.5GB of loops and samples from Loopcloud, over 2,000 sounds from Native Instruments, two DAWs (Pro Tools | First and Ableton Live Lite), and SSL's own Vocalstrip 2 and Drumstrip plug-ins.
