Warm Audio has been heartily lauded for its ability to produce outboard gear and studio microphones that deliver high-end tone akin to popular classics at an ultra-competitive price point, so its entry into the realm of stompbox-style guitar effects with the Foxy Tone Box and the Jet Phaser starts a tantalizing new chapter, not only for the company, but also for musicians and studio wizards. Additionally, Warm Audio has released some new accessories for its WA-84, WA-251, and WA-47 microphones.
Built to match the sonic likeness of a heralded fuzz pedal used by heavy hitters such as Billy Gibbons, Peter Frampton, Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and more, the Foxy Tone Box is part fuzz, part octave, and all character. From its NOS Fairchild germanium transistors and germanium diodes to its high-watt carbon resistors and film capacitors, this pedal’s fully discrete, 100% analog signal path is hand-assembled to recreate the massive tone of the original circuit that inspired it.
With just three controls (volume, sustain, and fuzz) and a switch for the octave effect, the Foxy Tone Box can impart anything from mellow grit to scorch-the-Earth fire to your guitar, bass, synth, drum machine, or even a vocal! Power it with the included 9 VDC adapter or slap a 9V battery in it for use in portable rigs.
The Jet Phaser brings you the whirl and swirl of the phaser pedal preferred by Larry Graham, the funk bass legend of Sly and the Family Stone and Graham Central Station. Like the Foxy Tone Box, the Jet Phaser uses premium electronics to achieve vintage tone without the vintage price and supports two different power sources—the included 18 VDC power adapter or two 9V batteries.
However, the Jet Phaser is far from your typical phaser. This pedal boasts six modes (two “Phase” and four “Jet” modes) and a resonance control that works to slather on wild sci-fi filtering no matter what mode you use. The two Phase modes yield straightforward phasing with either mild or embellished depths, while the four Jet modes serve up varied combinations of fuzz (bright or dark) and phasing (shallow or deep).
If you’re playing in a Jet mode, you also get to use a dedicated knob that controls the output level of the signal; kick it up a notch to use your Jet mode as a boost. One more very cool feature worth noting…the fast/slow stomp-style switch toggles between the maximum modulation speed and the speed determined by the “Slow Rate” knob, but it does so by gradually accelerating and decelerating, much like a certain old organ’s rotary speaker.
Now for the new microphone accessories, which you may have forgotten about amid all this talk of cool guitar pedals. Warm Audio now has omnidirectional capsules available in nickel or black for its WA-84 small-diaphragm condenser mics, and you can snag flight cases for the WA-251 and WA-47 tube condenser mics to give them the protection they deserve.
If you want to intensify your pedalboard, expand options for effects in the studio, or simply experiment with interesting sonic textures, definitely investigate these new releases from Warm Audio. Bring yourself to the B&H SuperStore or zip over to our website to learn more!
