Humans’ fascination with the stars is as old as our ability to think and ask questions. For millennia we, as a species, were limited to observing the heavens with just our eyes. Of course, back then we were able to see more because light pollution didn’t exist, but making detailed observations was impossible. The invention of the microscope led to the development of the telescope, which allowed people to finally start exploring the larger universe. As technological advances were made and telescopes got bigger and better, their reach and the

A pioneer of full-frame mirrorless, Sony has expanded its system into a full-fledged lineup that caters to all varieties of image makers. No longer a niche market, Sony recognizes the value and versatility of a full-frame sensor: Its large form factor yields excellent image quality, it’s the same size as 35mm film for a sense of familiarity, and it’s still small enough so the overall camera size remains portable and compact.
Now that Sony has a grip on how to use full-frame sensors, and has released such a bevy of different cameras over the

In a way-back-when era, I had just purchased my Sony XDCAM PMW-EX1R for corporate and documentary projects and was getting lots of work with matching EX1 productions, since it was a pretty popular camera. For a long time, professionals the world over have been using Apple computers to create some of the most notable content available. It says something about a company when its customers refuse to use anything but the products made by that company. While it may seem “cultish” to some, there’s a good reason for it. Apple computers have generally always been stable, reliable, innovative, and run some fantastic professional software with aplomb. Full disclosure—I am a Mac user and I own an iPhone, but the reason I own them is not necessarily

What is a lens?
Superficially, a lens is little more than a cylinder containing optical elements that shift about as you focus by turning a ring around the cylinder. But even in its most basic form, a camera lens is far more complex than it might appear.
A lens is more than the sum of its parts. When you attach a lens to a camera, your choice of lens is very much like a painter's choice of brush. For finer details, the painter will choose a narrow, pointier brush. For cloud-free skies, a broader brush would be a wiser choice. Wide-angle lenses
