Blackmagic Design Announces New URSA Mini Pro

0Share

In some exciting pre-NAB news, Blackmagic Design has announced the introduction of its latest iteration of the URSA Mini, the URSA Mini Pro. The new Mini Pro features ergonomically designed side-panel controls, built-in optical ND filters, an interchangeable lens mount, and a high-visibility LCD panel. The URSA Mini Pro retains the 15-stop dynamic range, 4.6K-resolution sensor, and up to 60p/4.6K frame rate of the URSA Mini. Recording options now include two SD UHS-II card slots for HD and Ultra HD recording, in addition to two CFast card slots for 4.6K RAW and ProRes capture.

Appealing to ENG-style operators, the URSA Mini Pro’s tactile controls enable you to adjust settings by feel without taking your eye from the viewfinder. The magnesium-alloy body is evenly weighted for comfortable operating, and a 12-pin connector has been added for broadcast-style lenses. Full redundancy is provided on all controls, and the 4" integrated monitor folds out for easy viewing.

The optical ND filters are designed to eliminate IR contamination and to match the URSA Mini color space. They come in 2-, 4-, and 6-stop increments, and you have the option of displaying the filter setting as either an ND number, a fraction, or a stop reduction. The optical filter mechanism not only provides a quick way to add an ND when your light level changes suddenly, but it frees up a filter tray in your matte box for use by another filter.

A boon for shooters who make use of variously mounted lenses for different projects, the URSA Mini Pro features an interchangeable lens mount. The camera comes with an EF Mount that can be swapped out for a PL Mount or B4 Mount (available separately). A Set of 9 Shims is available, separately, to align your lenses precisely.

The Mini Pro’s LCD screen is designed to be visible even in bright light, and has a backlight that can be turned on and off depending on the ambient light situation. Additional new features include automatic metadata support for camera settings, slate information, and lens data for electronic EF, B4 (2/3"), and compatible PL-mount lenses.

Accessories such as the Shoulder-Mount Kit, the URSA Viewfinder, or the 7" Studio Viewfinder can be used to customize the URSA Mini Pro for your particular needs.

Once you’ve captured your footage, take advantage of the free copy of the DaVinci Resolve Studio 12.5 software that is included with each URSA Mini Pro. Since this robust NLE and color-correcting software works with the same native format as the camera, you’ll be saving time that, otherwise, would be spent on converting files.

Blackmagic Design offers two compact control panels for working with DaVinci Resolve Studio, the DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel and the DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel. The Mini Panel offers an angled, dual-deck interface with three hi-res weighted trackballs, 12 control knobs, two 5" screens, eight soft knobs, eight soft buttons, and dedicated keys. The even more compact Micro Panel’s features include three hi-res weighted trackballs, 12 control knobs for essential functions, and 18 dedicated keys.
