Ricoh Reaches 4K with 360° Theta V Spherical Camera

Reach the high-resolution heights you have always wanted for your 360° imaging dreams, with the just-announced Theta V from Ricoh. Keeping a form similar to its much-loved predecessors, the Theta V makes some serious improvements to video quality with its ability to record and live stream video over USB, at up to 4K resolution. It also boosts stills quality with an ISO range that has been expanded to ISO 64-6400, resulting in sharper and cleaner images in a wider variety of shooting situations.

This version features two 12MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensors, each with its own f/2 lens, which combine to create the 360° images at 5376 x 2688 resolution. Designed for simplicity, the Theta V features one main operational button for quickly taking a photo, and can work with the Theta S mobile app to access advanced settings and functions. Also, when recording video, the Theta V uses a built-in four-microphone array for capturing 3D audio. This model also expands the internal memory to 19GB and features much faster wireless transfer speeds of up to 50 Mbps.

Being released alongside the Theta V is a brand-new audio accessory: the TA-1 3D Microphone. This device attaches directly to the base of the Theta V and uses four directional microphones to capture 360° 3D spatial audio, making the creation of immersive virtual reality content much easier. This mic system was developed through a partnership with Audio-Technica, a highly respected manufacturer of audio equipment. It includes a windscreen to limit wind noise when working outdoors. Additionally, the TW-1 Underwater Housing is available, which is compatible with the Theta V, S, and SC, and provides waterproofing down to 98'. This housing features hard and anti-reflective coatings, for protection and maximizing image quality and it includes a carrying case and strap.
