The whole time that Zhiyun-Tech’s CRANE and WEEBILL LAB gimbals were making headlines—having introduced an underslung handle design to the world of gimbals—the Crane-2 gimbal highly maintained its popularity and price point. Now in a follow-up to the Crane-2, Zhiyun-Tech has announced the CRANE 2S.
This newer model is designed with a new 9th Instune algorithm that allows for better axis responsiveness to support larger cameras such as the Blackmagic Pocket 6K, Panasonic S1H, and Canon 1D X Mark II. It also provides mounting points for directly attaching an optional Zhiyun-Tech TransMount transmitter so the gimbal can be used in collaboration with other operators on set. The new design is also lighter and easier to maneuver, thanks to a carbon fiber grip handle.
Other new features include an improved handwheel on the side that works with very low delay for a more precise focus and zoom workflow when using an add-on motor. Furthermore, a 1" OLED screen lets you select many modes and parameters directly from the gimbal while the rest of the functions can be accessed from the companion iOS/Android app, which offers, among its many features, cinematic functions such as motion lapse and long-exposure time lapse.
The new camera-mounting system allows you to attach your camera the standard way and to switch to vertical mode for shooting social media content, and it’s complemented with a double safety mechanism and an axis locking mechanism for optimally balancing the camera one step at a time. The included quick-release plate is directly compatible with most tripods, jibs, and sliders, allowing you to move your camera efficiently between the gimbal and these optional supports on set. Overall, the CRANE 2S has been designed to suit the needs of filmmakers even better. Check it out on the B&H Website and at the B&H SuperStore along with many compatible Zhiyun accessories, including servo motors.
