All About Photography Gloves
Managing your equipment in the cold is difficult, but photography gloves help overcome obstacles. The design of these photography accessories gives you protection from bad weather plus freedom of movement to operate your gear. Optional features and a variety of materials allow you to find the fit and fabric to suit the type of photography you do.
What Are Photography Gloves?
What distinguishes photography gloves from standard gloves are the finger caps on the thumbs and forefingers. Flip back these connected caps and your fingers are free to perform fine motor movements such as lens changes. When you're done, flip the caps back on and proceed with your shoot. For extra protection, choose gloves with removable mitts. These fit over your hands when the caps are closed, providing the same degree of warmth as mittens.
Features of Photography Gloves
Many gloves have features that make it easier to operate your gadgets, and there are glove accessories for additional warmth or functionality. Features and options to consider are:
- Magnets to hold finger caps
- Leather, rubber, or other nonslip palm grips
- SD card pockets
- Liners for additional warmth
Choosing Photography Gloves
Winter photography gloves usually have durable exterior shells and inner linings for added insulation. Even with the caps closed, you need flexibility, so the gloves are made of fabrics, or a combination of fabrics, to provide this. If you like leather gloves, you'll find blends such as goatskin and twill that are sturdy yet allow freedom of movement. Thinsulate gloves are lightweight, and don't hinder you as you move your camera. Tech and touchscreen gloves come in smooth or fleece synthetic materials. Like waterproof gloves, they don't have finger caps, but the fingertips of tech and touchscreen gloves are compatible with digital screens.
Choose leather, synthetic, faux leather, or a combination if you'll be photographing in very cold conditions. Select touchscreen-friendly tech gloves if you want weather resistance but don't need the degree of protection provided by gloves with finger caps.
For the features you want and the protection you need, you'll find the best photography gloves for the way you work at B&H Photo and Video.
