Hoya EVO Antistatic UV Filter Overview

The Hoya 58mm EVO Antistatic UV(0) Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. It is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times in order to reduce dust and moisture from reaching the front lens element and to provide additional protection in case of accidental impacts.

The EVO antistatic coating on this filter helps to repel dust, as well as water, scratches, and stains, and aids in making the substrate easy to clean. Additionally, a 16-layer Super Multi-Coating helps to reduce surface reflections and ghosting for maintained contrast and clarity. The optical glass filter is set within a one-piece low-profile aluminum ring, which lessens the likelihood of vignetting if used on a wide-angle lens. The ring also features front threads for attaching additional filters or lens caps.

Hoya EVO Antistatic UV Filter Reviews

Pricey but Worth It

I've had this on my camera for over a week now and I can verify that the Antistatic properties do actually repel dust, etc. Another lens I've been using during the same period and that started out clean is indeed dusty now (I'd say a slight to moderate amount). At this point the Hoya has absolutely no dust at all. I haven't shot enough with the new filter to be able to compare optical clarity with my other filters, but I did take a few test shots with and without the Hoya filter. I can say there is no color shift at all in those shots. In this regard I'd say this filter is probably comparable to any of my Zeiss UV filters.

Clear and well made.

Perhaps I got a filter from a defective manufacturing run. After installing, on a new lens on a new camera, took three days of troubleshooting why the camera could not autofocus and even manually focusing did not result in pictures any clearer than my 3K iPhone. Turns out had I looked through the filter with my eye, I would have seen some major distortion in the center of the lens. No way B&H would have knows as the package was sealed. It will go back once I return home. Had to buy another on the road (ouch).

I have the Hoya EVO Antistatic UV filter attached to one of my lenses at all times. Picture quality is great. Although I can't compare to how it would be without the filter as I always use the lens with the filter on it. It rarely needs cleaning. When it needs cleaning it is usually easy, although it can be tricky sometimes. Expensive compared to other alternatives.

Seems a bit OK!

Very easy to clean, and appears to stay dust free fairly well after cleaning. No scratches after 7 months of frequent use and cleaning. No detectable color-cast.

Hi, are these the "super slim" frame? I have read about a couple people with sony camera lenses that have issues with the lens cap scratching the filter because of the slim/low profile design. Thanks

I'm considering using this filter on a canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens mounted on a Canon 6D body. Will the depth of this filter's frame result in any vignetting in the images taken at the lens's widest angle of view (16mm)?
