Miops MIOPS-C1 overview

  • 1Description

This B&H Kit consists of the MIOPS Camera Trigger and a shutter release cable for Canon 3-pin cameras. It is a versatile way to capture images using lightning, sound, or laser to trigger your camera or flash. It features six different modes of operation with adjustable sensitivity depending on your given shooting situation.

In addition to the lightning, sound, and laser, Timelapse and HDR modes enable additional creative output, and an external port can connect to various sensors to trigger your camera based on variables such as temperature, pressure, or humidity. An app for either iOS or Android allows you to control the MIOPS from your smart phone using Bluetooth connectivity. When not using a smartphone, all functions can be controlled by a color LCD screen on the unit. The trigger also comes with a PC sync cable for connecting a flash.

  • Miops Camera Trigger

The MIOPS Camera Trigger is a versatile way to capture images using lightning, sound, or laser to trigger your camera or flash. It features six different modes of operation with adjustable sensitivity depending on your given shooting situation.

In addition to the lightning, sound, laser, timelapse, and HDR modes enable additional creative output. An external port can connect to various sensors to trigger your camera based on variables such as temperature, pressure, or humidity. An app for either iOS or Android allows you to control the MIOPS from your smartphone using Bluetooth connectivity. When not using a smartphone, all functions can be controlled by a color LCD screen on the unit.

    Lightning Mode
A built-in light sensor detects changes in light and triggers your camera's shutter in just a few nanoseconds. You can capture only bright lightning strikes, or the smallest strikes, simply by adjusting the sensitivity. This mode can also be used to capture fireworks, or other events where you need to capture images based on changes in light.
    Laser Mode
The MIOPS has a built-in sensor to detect when a laser beam is broken, thereby triggering your camera's shutter. This is useful for detecting subjects such as water drops, animals, or intruders when conducting surveillance.
    Sound Mode
MIOPS's built-in microphone can detect sound, triggering your camera or flash to capture things like breaking glass, or a popping balloon. You can adjust the delay of the trigger as well as the sensitivity of amount of sound needed to trigger the shutter.
    Timelapse Mode
This mode lets you specify the interval time anywhere between one second and one hour, as well as how many photos to take. The LCD screen will turn off to save energy, allowing you to take a timelapse photo for days, or even months if you use an external power source.
    HDR Mode
Even if your camera doesn't have a bracketing feature, MIOPS allows you to set a center exposure, as well as the over and under exposures needed in order to make an HDR image.
    External Port
A port on the MIOPS can accept any external trigger that has an output signal between 0V and 3V, such as a temperature, pressure, or humidity sensor.
    Combining Sensors
You can combine sensors with MIOPS's Scenario feature by creating a custom scenarios with up to five different steps. For example, you can set the MIOPS to start taking timelapse photos only after it detects lightning.
    Triggering Your Camera and Flash
MIOPS has two dedicated outputs, one for a flash, and another for a camera. They are electrically isolated from each other, reducing risk of a short circuit. The MIOPS trigger can be used with multiple cameras (not simultaneously) by simply changing the camera connection cable.
    Mini-USB Port
The mini-USB port allows you to charge your Li-ion battery, as well as update the MIOPS's firmware.
    Compatibility
MIOPS can be used with any cameras which have a remote shutter trigger port or an IR port, and any and flash units with a PC sync jack.

Miops MIOPS-C1 reviews

Camera Trigger with Cable for Canon 3-Pin Cameras Kit is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Customer Support I wrote a review previously, in my frustration with a device that was faulty. I was contacted by the company, and after a few tests, they concluded I had a faulty unit, and expressed a brand new replacement MIOPS to me. I returned the faulty one to them. The new unit works as advertised. What a difference. I encourage all to try this lightning detector. You can control the sensitivity with your smart phone. A big advantage over other units that I have. MIOPS is the superior product. I now rate it a 5! Thank you MIOPS for your support, and follow up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It Works - kind of... Don't bother with customer service I bought this for water balloon photography. I wanted to use my Paul C Buff Einstein in Action mode. Unfortunately, this unit causes my Einstein to strobe with 2 flashes every time it triggers and I end up with 2 images on top of each other. I wanted to phone their technical support but there wasn't a phone number on the site. So I settled for email. 4 days later, I got a response from MIOPS (written by someone that doesn't speak english) stating that it wasn't their fault. LOL Thanks!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent I have had this for a few months and I like the idea. The remote has a lot of nice features and seems to work as expected. The app on the iPhone is also nice and functions well. I am disappointed in the build quality though. The hot-shoe adapter built on to the device is plastic. It does not fit tight on any of my Canon cameras. I find the remote has a tendency to slide out. There is a tripod mount on the bottom and you can use a metal hot shoe adapter, but it is not optimal. i also find that the LCD display on mine is crocked. A little annoyance for a photographer that shots a lot of architecture. The screen is readable, but it is not high quality resolution. It is workable though, and the smartphone app makes up for this shortcoming. The buttons are click-y and have a low quality feel to them. But the worst part is the on/off switch, which seems to be more inline with what you'd find on the bottom of a child's toy, and not a $$+ camera remote. Looking strictly at build quality, I find the Yongnuo remotes are built better and with higher quality components. Looking at feature set, Miops wins out compared to more other remotes I see in the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the wait ! Pre-ordered from B&H in December 2014. Every couple weeks was notified product had not arrived. Was shipped a couple of days ago and arrived today. Kudos to B&H, you guys rock! Too early to make a detailed assessment, but so far everything works as promised. Checked all the triggers built in and it works great, sound, light, laser, etc... No manual to speak of but it's pretty easy to figure out. The unit is very responsive, can't wait to put it through some paces. The android app is free and works beautifully, connectswith bluetooth and not a problem with kk 4.4. Unit is very light and mounts easily to top shoe of my Canon 7D. Includes 3 pin for Canon and flash cable as well. Also comes with a USB for charging battery. Charging from about 75% took about 30 mins. Battery came partially charged. Design is great, buttons are easy access, but not in the way or where you can accidentally push. Connection for EXT, Flash, Cam, USB. There's also a screw mount underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great so far! I bought this to use for lightning strikes but of course as soon as I got it the storms stopped here so I used during the 4th of July for fireworks and found it to work really well. It was easy to use. Downloading and using the app was simple. Took a try or two but once I turned the camera off and back on it worked great. Controlled everything from my phone and for the first time in a long time enjoyed the fireworks show. I used this on a Canon 5D Mark IV. For the fireworks I set it up for about a 90 pct sensitivity w/a 1-4 second shutter release and f/8 on the camera and got great shots. Looking forward to learning more about this and the app and hope that they'll create a lot of learning tools for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice device, but I personally have small issues..... I bought this trigger specifically for shooting lightning with my Canon 7D MK II, but intend to use it for other things as time goes on. My initial thoughts on the trigger are a little on the negative side, based on performance and a slight malfunction that almost caused me to send it back. Performance for the lightning trigger function is a little off because I would have my camera pointed directly at lightning strikes and the reaction time doesn't seem to be quick enough the majority of the time. Reviewing photos as they are taken when the trigger reacts reveals that there is usually no lightning visible when I clearly see it with my naked eyes. Occasionally the trigger is quick enough on the draw and beautiful shots are obtained. But I would estimate that it misses the lightning 75-80 percent of the time. I will include one of my successful shots in this review. I have only used the trigger a few times because our summer monsoons have slowed this week. Perhaps working with the settings this weekend when our storms are forecast to return will increase the capture rates. The other issue I had was that the battery failed to charge. I wrote to MIOPS about it and the recommended that I check the battery pin connections to ensure that they were fully engaging the battery. Sure enough one of the pins was not making a connection and I adjusted it so it would. No problems charging since then. Overall, I like the product due to its looks, weight and performance (It actually does cause the camera to fire when lightning strikes). But perhaps there is a little bit of a learning curve with the settings. This, along with the fact that I had to do MINOR repairs to get it to charge, causes me to give the MIOPS Camera Trigger 4 stars. Perhaps with time and testing, this rating would go up.
