FotodioX FD-SNYE-PRO overview

  • 1Description

The Canon FD Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Pro Lens Mount Adapter from Fotodiox allows a Canon FD-mount lens to be used with a full-frame or APS-C format Sony E-mount camera. It is designed to support infinity focusing, and is constructed from brass and an aluminum-alloy along with a stainless-steel lens mounting ring to provide a durable, yet lightweight camera-to-lens connection.

This adapter does not support electronic communication between an attached camera and lens. To control the amount of light that enters a Sony E-mount camera when using this adapter and a Canon FD-mount lens, an aperture-control ring is built into the adapter which couples with the lens's aperture mechanism so that adjustments to brightness as well as depth-of-field can be made. To help prevent stress on the camera mount when placed on a tripod, the adapter includes a detachable Arca-type compatible tripod foot with 1/4"-20 threads.

  • Allows Canon FD-mount lens to be used with a full-frame or APS-C format Sony E-mount camera
  • Attached lens can focus to infinity
  • Brass and aluminum-alloy construction with stainless-steel lens mounting ring for durability
  • Integrated control ring allows adjustment of lens aperture
  • Detachable, Arca-Swiss compatible tripod foot with 1/4"-20 threads

    FotodioX FD-SNYE-PRO reviews

Canon FD Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Pro Lens Mount Adapter is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor design. Worse function. I bought this so I could mount a 40 yr old Canon 50mm FD mount lens on my new Sony e-mount camera. Unfortunately, the aperture ring on the adapter has 2 problems. (1) You can't actually set it to a specific aperture. There's only an unmarked scale that ranges from wide to narrow. (2) Once you set it to somewhere along the scale, the aperture drifts, quite quickly, toward the more narrow end of the scale. I contacted Fotodiox and described the drifting aperture ring, and their response was This can happen with this adapter and some lenses, the spring on some lenses are stronger then the adapter and can pull the aperture closed. My response to them: If you know this is a problem, why don't you redesign the adapter with a stronger spring? Don't waste your $ on this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works, for some lenses. I have few old FD lenses that I wanted to try on my Sony E-mount mirrorless camera (sony a6000). I mounted this adapter to the each of the lenses (a canon prime, hoya prime and Vivitar zoom. All three mounted successfully and had a very solid feel with no wiggle. With all three lenses, the camera successfully took pictures. Since the adapter has no glass elements, I won't bother writing about picture quality since it's not pertinent to this device. Here's the bad news...the aperture control didn't work for all of my lenses. It worked on the canon prime and the Vivitar zoom, but NOT the Hoya. When you mount your lens you need to make sure the blue ring is in the install position. Then, you can use the blue ring in combination with the aperture ring on your lens to control aperture. (I used the camera in S mode) The way the blue ring works is like this: it acts as a secondary adjustment to the aperture of your lens. When you rotate the ring, it adjusts the aperture from all the way open (the lowest F-number on your lens) to XXXX. XXXX represents the current aperture setting of your lens. Now these adjustments aren't clicks. It's a smooth adjustment. If you want specific clicks or specific F-numbers, then the way to operate the adapter would be to leave the blue ring in the closed position (or XXXX as I just described) and then use the lens's aperture ring to control your iris. So what about the Hoya? Well, after messing around with it quite a bit and even contacting customer support, I could not make it work. So for that lens, I'm stuck shooting wide open. Which I guess is ok, but I'm not getting the most out of my lens. So bottom line, if you have several FD lenses and want to shoot pictures with these vintage lenses, this adapter may work for you, and it may not, depending on your lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What I Paid for. I use it for my Sony A7Rii with a Canon 600mm f4.0. I have gone only only two shoots with it though they were all day. The mount happily holds up the weight of my camera at the end of the lens and I use the camer to turn the lens on a tripod: making the mount the the middle man in transfering the force. The mount creats a great physic connection between the two. It is very rigid and no signs of wear. I hope and plan to get a lifetime of use out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would by this again. The adapter works great. Sturdy and solid build and I was able to use it on several FD mount lenses from Canon and Soligor. I was even Able to use on one FL lens as well (a bit tighter fit, but still worked). The only complaint I have is that it didn't come with a mount cover. Would definitely recommend this to a friend. Enjoy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well with my old FD lens Snug fit with my old FD 50mm f/1.4 lens on my A7II. I like that it has a manual aperture ring built in. Easy to use. Keeps my A7II nice and compact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended I've been using this adapter on an A7Sii with my old FD lenses and I love it. Used with focus peaking, I get great images from classic lenses. Being able to preview the depth of field with full brightness on the electronic viewfinder/screen is just awesome. The adapter is well made. I've had no reason to remove the tripod coupler. The only thing to remember is to engage the stop-down ring so you get the desired F-stop but that can't be helped. Price is reasonable too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits perfectly. This adapter is a perfect fit for FD lenses to E mounts. The tripod mount is also a blessing.
