    Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 reviews

14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Canon EF with AE Chip is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good images at a reasonable price This lens is lots of fun at a very good price. The Canon AE version allows you to use focus confirmation indicator/beep. Aperture is set in the camera like other Canon lenses; it does not have an aperture ring, contrary to the web photo, Center is sharp even wide open, Corners are less sharp, but pretty sharp when stopped down. It's very easy to focus using live view with 10x magnification. You may think you have enough dof that it doesn't matter, but under 10x mag, you can see the difference. May have some curvature of field (edges focus at different distance than center) but haven't done a good test yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality for a great price! Opted for the Rokinon over the 14mm Canon L lens since this lens would be primarily for wide angle astrophotography, Milkyway, star trails, etc. When the version with the focus confirmation chip went on sale for not much more that the non chip version, I had to jump on the deal. I Haven't had a chance to shoot the Milkyway, but I did shoot an hours worth of star trails, and it worked well for fireworks too! Build quality seems pretty durable. I expected cheap plastic, but the lens is actually heavy. I'm pretty happy with the lens.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Build. Poor Quailty Control. 1. Camera battery went down to zero over night. This happened two times on my 5DMIII 2.One forth of left side of image was very very blury. Top right corner was also blury. 3. Infinity focus was at the 1.5 ft. mark? 4. Build quality is good. Too bad Rokinon cannot get it right. At the very least, they should check their product before they send it out. Very disappointed. I bought this lens because I have read that it has very little coma. I was planning to use it for Milky Way Night Sky Photography. I have been photographing for 55 years. Been a Canon user for 25 years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprise Just 'bought a Canon 5DMIII and needed a wide angle lens without spending too much. After much research and scrutiny, I decide on this lens instead of another Canon L lens. After shooting for a couple days, I realized something.............. THIS LENS IS D_MN GOOD, REALLY SHARP AND EASY TO USE. This lens is a welcomed addition to my arsenal of lenses and is my go-to lens for landscaping. Just love this lens. Already made money selling prints created by this lens. It's not perfect but, neither am I,,,,,,,or,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you. Thinking about,,,,,,,,don't,,,,,just get this lens before they stop making them!!! I must say,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I was really, really surprised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favorite lens for night photography I own and love a nice set of Canon L-series lenses and was somewhat reluctant to even try this lens after reading reviews about quality issues. Trying this lens changed my attitude instantly. This lens is compact and light (compared to L-series ones, so you may think different) and the optical quality is simply amazing. Mine is sharp from corner to corner even at f/2.8, shows practically no chromatic aberration nor noticeable coma. I also used it for city shots in the narrow streets of Amsterdam and results were excellent. However, city scapes or motives with straight lines require distortion correction, which works great with the default profile in Lightroom CC. Over the past year, this lens has seen about the same use as my Canon L ones, making this one my "best bang for the buck" lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp, Good Build Quality I currently, July 2015, use this lens with a Canon 6D. I use it to provide context for my other smaller field of view lenses and to provide stunning pictures of closer up images while still retaining the background context. Exceptional value lens (check out the non-chip confirm version for Canon quantitative resolution values of this lens. It is insanely good not even considering the low cost. I purchased the non-chip confirm model and I can attest it is exceptional. Just wanted the longer term convenience of interaction with my camera). Adobe Lightroom CC (creative cloud recognizes the lens and can provide immediate lens corrections). I am very happy with this lens. Check out my first test pictures of the UW-Madison Memorial Union Terrace taken July 3rd, 2015 as part of this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value Just received this lens and took some test shots using a Canon 6D -- results so far are very good, which I expected since I rented this lens (without the AE chip) before buying. A pleasant surprise was that the AE chip, in addition to providing focus confirm, allows the camera body to control the aperture setting -- the manual aperture setting ring on the lens as shown in the photos is not present on the AE chip model. Also, the AE chip model sets the EXIF Focal Length and Lens tags to 14 mm and 14mm, respectively. (The non-AE chip model I rented did not set these tags.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Astrophotography I used this lens for astro-photography and wide landscape shots. I compared it side-by-side to Canon's 14mm L series lens. Honestly, this Rokinon is sharper and has much less chromatic aberrations. The only downside to this lens, unlike the Canon, is its relatively intense distortion. (This is why you pay $2000 for the Canon) This will be noticeable when shooting horizontal landscape lines and cannot be fully corrected. But if you're planning on shooting the stars/milky-way, then it shouldn't be too big of a deal. Can't complain about the build quality. It's light and relatively small. Very easy to handle too.
