It does seem expensive for a piece of aluminium. However the finish and machining are very professional. I have a Celestron C6 mounted on a Stellarvue M002C on a Innorel RT90C tripod. The mount would hit the tripod near the zenith. With the Acratech riser, I can point to the zenith with room to spare. The riser is also very light. Definitely recommended.

Can the 3/8" stud on the top be removed and replaced with a 1/4 - 20 stud?
Acratech Tripod Head Riser, 1" comes with a fixed 3/8-16 stud. You can unscrewed the stud and use a 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 Threads male stud. The following option is compatible.

Does this mount on most tripods, especially Manfrotto's?
Yes I have on with a manfrotto 410 head and tripod. The threads are a standard size and will work on just about any tripod.
