Azden SGM-250P overview

  • 1Description

The SGM-250P from Azden is a supercardioid, phantom powered, broadcast-quality shotgun microphone that can be used in various environments to capture audio to camcorders, DSLRs, recorders, and more.

The SGM-250P features a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and a two-step low cut filter. The mic is built with a rugged all-metal barrel and has tightly spaced vertical slots along the tip to provide side and rear rejection. Measuring about 8 inches in length, the SGM-250P is easily kept out of frame in boom pole applications and is suitable for almost any filming situation.

The mic includes a gold-plated XLR output, and comes with a shock-mount holder, a foam windshield, and a zippered carrying case.

    Azden SGM-250P reviews

SGM-250P Shotgun Microphone is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Mic - Only Phantom Powered This a great mic overall that I am using for audio capture for shorts/low budget filmmaking. The mic has a decent range for the price. If you are little to get a bit more dynamic sound - check out the Rode NTG-3. The mic also includes a camera mountable shock mount and foam windscreen which is nice. You must power this mic via 48V phantom power which can be frustrating if you are working with a field recorder that doesn't support it or your field recorder eats batteries like it's thanksgiving when using phantom power. I would (and did) go with the SGM-250 (non P) model because it is the same price but gives you more flexibility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful 200 dollar mic. Phantom only, 20 bucks cheaper than the model w AA battery option, and I like it that way. Less money, less that can go wrong and less I have to worry about. I'm never without phantom power on my XLR options, so I like that I'm not thinking Did I bring batteries? Is the battery good? Did I install the battery? Is the battery STILL good? Did I remove the battery? Quality sound, very respectable noise floor, sturdy metal construction, low profile and weighs practically nothing. Indistinguishable from my old Rode NTG2, even the same 10 year warranty. And the old deadcat from my Rode fits it perfectly, too. God bless ya, Rode. Still use your products, but for those at a 200 or so dollar budget, save 60 and grab this over the NTG2. *One note - without the battery housing, this mic is shorter so works best with the short 2&1/2 shockmount.
