Azden SGM-250CX Overview

The Azden SGM-250CX is a short shotgun microphone that features a shockmount for easy camera mounting and a hardwired 13" output cable with a standard XLR connector for use with professional cameras and recorders. It is powered via phantom power. Specifically tuned to preserve the natural qualities of a speaking subject, the mic provides video creators with a cost-effective solution for indie films, web shows, and wedding applications.

The SGM-250CX features a supercardioid polar pattern and a custom-designed acoustic tube with high-precision, phase-canceling slots that minimize the recording of extraneous noise while focusing on the sound in front of the camera. The highly sensitive capsule delivers a flat frequency response (20 Hz to 20 kHz) with low self-noise and 130 dB SPL, for accurate audio capture.

Handcrafted in Japan, the SGM-250CX is housed in a brass/aluminum alloy case that improves durability and rejects ambient radio frequencies (RF). The SMH-X shockmount with two diameter expander sheets provides a secure hold for your mic, whether you run-and-gun or mount it to a pistol grip or to a boompole.

  • Short length and compact design ideal for mounting on professional cameras equipped with an XLR audio input

I just tested this mic on my Sony Z90 in a stakeout situation on Capitol Hill. I was alone and jumped in one-man-band on some interviews. It captured the audio amazingly well considering I was not always in front of the subject

The specs indicate the operating voltage to be 11 - 50 volts. When I use this Azden mic with the Xvive U3C Wireless transmiiter, may I keep the transmitter phantom power voltage switch at 12 v instead of 48 v so I may get 7 hours battery power usage out of the transmitter as opposed to 5 hours usage using the 48 v setting?
Asked by: Hugh
Yes that is exactly what you should do.

Is it possible to use the SGM-250CX with a GH4? ...

Is it possible to use the SGM-250CX with a GH4? Or is there any way to get high quality sound with the GH4 (other than using a separate audio recorder)? Thank you for help.
Asked by: Eric
Hello. The SGM-250CX can only work with the GH4 if you're using some sort of small audio mixer/XLR adapter. Currently, Panasonic makes a small XLR adapter box that mounts to the hot shoe, but that is only compatible with the GH5. If you're using the GH4, it will only work using something like our FMX-DSLR 2-channel audio mixer, or something like a Zoom or Tascam product.
