Azden SGM-250MX Overview

From Manufacturer

The Azden SGM-250MX is a short shotgun microphone that features a shockmount for easy camera mounting and a hardwired 13" output cable with a mini-XLR connector for use with various compact cinema cameras. It plugs into the balanced mini-XLR audio input of the camera—which must be capable of delivering phantom power—and offers superior audio quality with less noise than the camera's 3.5mm audio input. Specifically tuned to preserve the natural qualities of a speaking subject, the mic provides video creators with a cost-effective solution for TV, documentary, and film applications.

The SGM-250MX features a supercardioid polar pattern and a custom-designed acoustic tube with high-precision, phase-canceling slots that minimize the recording of extraneous noise while focusing on the sound in front of the camera. The highly sensitive capsule delivers a flat frequency response (20 Hz to 20 kHz) with low self-noise and 130 dB SPL, for accurate audio capture.

Handcrafted in Japan, the SGM-250MX is housed in a brass/aluminum alloy case that improves durability and rejects ambient radio frequencies (RF). The SMH-X shockmount with two diameter expander sheets provides a secure hold for your mic, whether you run-and-gun or mount it to a pistol grip or to a boompole.

Azden SGM-250MX Reviews

Great microphone, and a perfect match for Blackmagic Cameras

Rated 5 out of 5

Purchased this to use with my Pyxis 6K, even though I already own a number of on camera shotgun microphones, including Deity and Joby, plus two Sennheiser MKE600's. What really sold me on the Azden, besides the build quality is that it has a mini-xlr connection so I don't have to use an adapter on my Pyxis. Its ruggedly built, has a nice shock mount and from what I have hear, great audio quality. A bit on the higher end for a scratch mike in my usage, but I think worth it and a viable main microphone as a backup.

The mic is great for price, but problem the Auray windshield

I would have given this mic 5 stars. It almost holds up to the Sennheiser MKH 416 at 1/5 of the price. The problem is if you are shooting in exteriors you'll need a windshield (deadcat). The camera mount of the short shotgun doesn't allow for the windshield to ft all the way and so the wind is a big problem. In a nutshelk: for interiors: great, 5 stars, for exteriors with a bit of wind: a problem.
