Gitzo GH1382TQD Reviews

Excellent, with a simple mod

This is a nice head, though I think it could be even smaller/lighter to improve the travelled tripod package. My only complaints, and I’ve seen them elsewhere, are that both ball screws (friction and locking) can unscrew easily, and potentially be lost. My solution was to put a thin strip of stiff foam under the friction screw (around the edge). This makes them turn together, and keeps both from falling out. If you set the friction screw to engage first, you can select friction or lock by simply adjusting the lock knob. This engages light friction first, and locks if you tighten more. Since the two screws have different thread pitch, they cannot easily fall out. With this mod, it’s an excellent ballhead.

Would recommend, sturdy

Using this ball head as a replacement head on my carbon fiber backpacking tripod. More than enough (grip) strength to hold fast my mirrorless and a 100-500 zoom. I can fine tune the hold(grip) to just how I would like it, rock solid to a small amount of drag, to where it won't just flop over. Would recommend, great build quality, great size.

Will this Gitzo ball head work on Gitzo Monopod?
Asked by: Cynthia B.
Yes it will work. These ball heads take a 3/8 screw, so you just need to reverse the monopod screw to use the head.

This Gitzo travel ball head is too sticky and not smooth like my old Promaster cheapo ball head. Is there anyone else with this issue?
Asked by: Karen
In the large knob for tightening the ball head there is a friction adjustment (drag) check this to see if it is too tight. It changes the drag on the ball when adjusting before you lock it down.
