Smaller then expected, but very solid, i am using this on series 5 giant with hasselblad X. Also looked at the RRS but in the end decided against it.

Ive used lots of tripods and head configurations over the last 30 years. This time around, I really didnt want to have to compromise. My shooting kit can get kinda heavy, so my decision came down to the Gitzo Series 3 or the RRS BH-55. Gitzo is a little lighter (around .26 lbs.), supports slightly less weight (40 versus 50 lbs.), and costs about the same for the RRS screw lock version. I own other Gitzo and RRS products, so I know that from a design and build-quality perspective, I couldnt go wrong either way. So why did I opt for the Gitzo; height! The RRS is 3 tall and the Gitzo is 5. Since Ive given up using the center column on my tripod, and I dont like using the skinniest part of the leg, those silly 2 sometimes make a big difference. I know that I wouldnt have gone wrong with either head.

Very nice ball head

After 10 years of using a Benro B1 ball head, I upgraded to this Gitzo. Big improvement. The Benro had creep, no creep with the Gitzo.

Great

I've been using the RRS BH-55 ball head on my Gitzo Series 3 Mountaineer tripod with good results for several years. Due to an unfortunate incident, I had to replace the ball head. I decided to try the Gitzo Series 3 ball head knowing the awesome quality of their tripods. I was not disappointed! This head has got all the technical quality and precision of the RRS BH-55 head, plus it's got those awesome rubber knobs! In cold weather the rubber interface with my cold fingers is so much better than the freezing metal of the RRS head. When this head is attached to a Gitzo tripod it looks like the entire thing is one piece. To summarize, I've been a working pro since 1975 and have used all kinds of camera support gear from ENG fluid heads to tiny desktop tripods. This head, mounted on a Gitzo tripod, is an unbeatable combination. Solid, steady, comfortable and beautiful to behold! A winner!

The ball head does a fantastic job of supporting my gear. The friction control is precise and provides consistent control. Moreover, with an attached 70-200, I've not experienced any slip/drift whatsoever.

I believe this is the nicest ballhead I've ever purchased. I feel good using it to know my D850 and heavy lenses will stay put.

question

Hi there! Can you please tell me if this Gitzo GH3382QD Series 3 Center Ball Head (B&H # GIGH3382QD -MFR # GH3382QD)is compatible with the Gitzo Series 4 Systematic Traveler 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod (B&H # GIGT4552TS - MFR # GT4552TS)?Thank you very much!
Asked by: Anonymous
I have an earlier traveler, I don't know the model, because it is 17 years old, and I have perused the B&H catalog of Gitzo tripods, and I see that they all have the same connection platform, so I am certain that it is compatible with your tripod. I can highly recommend this item. It loses no grip even under extensive use, and I have found it well worth the investment to add it to my kit. If you have long lenses that require direct attachment to a tripod, you might be well advised to get an additional connector plate. Hope this helps.
