Manfrotto 290 Reviews
Great Monopod at a great price

I've been a Manfroto fan for many years, so I expected nothing less than great quality when I ordered the 290 Carbon Fiber Monopod. Four section monopod collapses to a convenient length yet expands with plenty of height. I especially like the cam lock levers that make for quick, easy and secure adjustment, a feature I appreciate on my Manfrotto tripod as well.
Very good for the price

The only thing I would change is the foot is not interchangeable with 3 legs or a spike, and its a simple rubber non slip which works extremely well

Can the 290 function as a hiking stick?
Yes. I used it as well.. The only issue is that, we need to be careful about the pin - that is right on top. I did not try to remove it ..

Is this monopod can handling big lens as 400mm ...
Is this monopod can handling big lens as 400mm and 600mm lens?
There is disagreement between reviewers regarding the maximum load carried by the MM290C4US. One reviewer states that the max load for this 290 carbon fiber monopod is 11 lbs. However, the specs for the monopod listed by B&H state that its load capacity is 22 lbs. This is a big difference when considering its use with long lenses like the Nikon 200-500mm or the Canon 600mm L, etc. It's true that the crucial factor is the component with the lowest maximum load, and that is likely to be the head. I'm not a big fan of ball heads, but if the load capacity of the 234RC is only 6 lbs that puts my body + Nikon 200-500mm combo over the limitâtoo big a risk to take with that much gear as Humpty Dumpty.
