Lensbaby LBCP2E50C overview

  • 1Description

Create unique, stylized photographs with a slice of sharp focus surrounded by beautifully blurred imagery by using Lensbaby's Composer Pro II with Edge 50 Optic, available here with a Canon EF mount. This updated tool is completely compatible with the established Optic Swap System and can use any of the numerous optics available. This version improves on the original Pro model by featuring a metal body as well as an improved tilt function that ranges from 0-15° in any direction.

Bundled with it is the Edge 50, offering a normal angle of view with coverage for full-frame image sensors. This flat field optic differs from your standard lens by creating a slice of focus when tilted that can be manipulated in position by tilting the Composer and in size by manually changing the aperture from f/3.2 to 22. The optic also offers manual focus which, by using the close focus extension feature, can focus as close as 8" from your subject. Additionally, this optic has a 46mm filter thread as well as an internal 9-blade diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus areas.

Composer Pro II features an upgraded metal body with charcoal gray accents and an improved tilt control from 0-15° in any direction.

    Lensbaby LBCP2E50C reviews

Composer Pro II with Edge 50 Optic for Canon EF is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definetly not a PRO-product, but super fun and educational To let in the word pro in this type of product, might set the expectations a bit too high. It's a toy.. And in that category i find it a bit expensive. The focus ring is a bit wobbly, which makes it really hard to use for video. The tilt ball has a wobbly feel to it as well, but i would always keep that fixed in a video situation. When that is said, it is a super fun toy, that challenges your manual skills and support your understanding of photography. For photo it is a cool little creative tool that actually can make the shot of the day when mounted on the camera. The last star would have been given, if the last built quality was there, so the price was matching expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fun lens with a learning curv I have loved using this new lens/optic. There is a learning curve as you have to manually focus, and adjust aperature on the lens and shoot in manual mode. When using a more narrow aperature, your view is darkened so you have to trust in your light meter. This could be frustrating to someone new to manual shooting. A new challenge is just what I needed...The effects are beautiful, similar to free-lensing without having to worry about too much light spilling in between the lens and camera. Now that I am getting better at using the lens, making beautiful images with it and using it intently and thoughtfully are the challenges. I wanted a tilt-shift lens but couldn't justify the expense on something that wasn't 100% necessary for my business. Though different than a tilt shift lens, this offers a different perspective than a regular lens and it is just what I was looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Composer Pro II I enjoy using Lensbaby Composer Pro II. Fun to be creative and experiment with. More flexible range of angles when tilting than a dedicated tilt-shift lens but without the higher expense of a tilt-shift lens. FYI- This isn't a tilt-shift lens. There is no shifting, just a tilting. Macro pull out is a plus.
