Yes, you may reformat it in exFAT to use it on both systems or you could make a partition for each one.

I purchased the micro-B version by mistake, ...
I purchased the micro-B version by mistake, instead of the type-c. It came with one cable which doesn't connect to my macbook. Have I completely messed up or is it possible to get a cable that connects this hard drive to my computer?
I am sure if you check around there are micro B to C cable. You can also purchase an attachment as I have done for your mac to allow for multiple inputs.
My Anker has 2 standard USbs, an HDMI, and 2 Apple C connectors. Really comes in handy when working with different devices.
Not everyone is all MAC like us.

Does this drive come with a plug to seal and protect the cable port?
It does not come with any kind of protection to seal and protect the cable port but it has worked excellent for me but I have not exposed it to extremely humid conditions.

Is this a normal hard drive with just an orange rubber for protection or there is extra protection inside the actual drive case?
The case itself is a protective all metal enclosure, however most of the protection comes from the rubber around the drive itself.
