Elinchrom EL19367 overview

  • 1Description

With the EL-Skyport Transmitter Pro for Nikon, Elinchrom introduced a game-changing wireless solution that's compatible with three generations of transceivers and flash heads and offers Hi-Sync flash sync speeds up to 1/8000 sec.

The 20-channel transmitter is immediately recognizable by its large LCD screen that displays every light in your setup. The Skyport Pro will control the modeling light and flash intensity of BRX, D-Lite RX, ELC Pro HD, and ELB flash heads as well as the EL-Skyport Transceiver RX for the Style RX, Digital RX, and Ranger RX systems. Operating on the 2.4 GHz frequency, it has an enhanced wireless range too, triggering and controlling your flash heads at a distance of 196' indoors and 656' outdoors.

One of the transceivers most exciting features is Hi-Sync technology that lets you use shutter speeds up to 1/8000 of a second, far shorter than your camera's standard sync speed. Whether you use it to overpower the sun, freeze action, darken backgrounds, or select wider apertures, Hi-Sync opens up a new realm of exposure possibilities. You can even fine tune the transmitter's trigger signal with ODS (Over Drive Sync) for optimal exposures at high shutter speeds.

The EL-Skyport Transmitter Pro runs on AA batteries and has a future-proofing mini-USB connection for firmware updates.

Visual Feedback Interface
The large LCD display of the Skyport Pro features two-way control via a Visual Feedback Interface that lets you see the exact power of every light in your setup right on the transmitter. Users control each light's power level and modeling lamp setting directly from the Skyport transmitter, which instantly shows the updated power settings.
Hi-Sync Technology
Go beyond the X-Sync of your camera. Photographers can simply switch to Hi-Sync mode and access sync speeds up to 1/8000s to freeze motion, overpower the sun, darken backgrounds, or use a wider aperture. The new ODS (Over Drive Sync) enables users to fine tune the Skyport plus HS transmitter's trigger signal to optimize exposure at high shutter speeds while gaining up to two more f-stops of light.
Impressive Wireless Range
The Skyport Pro has 20 frequency channels that can be used for either Normal or Speed mode, and a wireless range of 656' outdoors and 196' indoors. It also features a mini-USB socket for firmware updates. Users can instantly distinguish what sync mode they are in since the backlit display glows green for normal sync mode, and red for speed sync mode.
The Skyport Pro represents a seamless extension of the EL-Skyport family since it is also compatible with the three previous generations of flash units including the EL- Skyport Transceiver RX module for Style RX, Digital RX, and Ranger RX systems and the integrated EL-Skyport modules for the BRX, D-Lite RX, ELC Pro HD, and ELB series. The Skyport Pro adds synchronization capability and two-way control functionality to all Elinchrom lights with EL-Skyport capability.
LCD Display
The LCD display shows each strobe unit's power settings and allows for full control of all strobes right on top of the Skyport Pro. The individual strobes show up automatically on the screen, and you can adjust the settings on top of the transceiver or on the strobe itself. You can see and control up to 10 different EL strobes with the HS transmitter.
AF Assist Light
The Skyport Pro also includes an autofocus assist feature to help cameras focus in low light situations. This avoids using the flash unit's modeling light which drains battery power.

    Elinchrom EL19367 reviews

EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS for Nikon is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG... I am in Love! The EL-Skyport...It's about time. This will replace all my Pocket Wizards in my bag for the most part. I will keep them as back up, but the EL-Skyport Plus HS is a dream. So far it has worked on all my bodies: Nikon D4s, D810, D800 and D700. I have several packs both the ELB400 and the older Ranger Ranger Quadra and both work fine. High Sync is not always needed, but when it is, boy it works like a charm. I shoot portraits in Los Angeles and it is always sunny and the High Sync comes in handy. Set up was easy on all camera, but the D810. After checking settings, i got it figured in 10 mins. If you have Elinchrom lights, and I love mine, you need this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than expected The compatibility chart said it wouldn't do hss with the BRX500. It does, and does it very well. I have two D-Lite 400's that I new would work, so now I have a more powerful option should I need it. User friendly, don't really need the instructions. Able to do everything from the camera position, great for hair lights that are up high.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't live up to claims! I was so stoked to get this unit after reading reviews, admittedly mostly from Canon shooters. However, if you're a Nikon shooter, keep hoping. This unit does not do what it claims with respect to HS. The Elinchrom site lists it as compatible with ELB-400 Pro heads. Yes, it triggers them and it's an improvement over the standard skyport in usability but it does not live up to the claims for high speed sync and there are other shortcomings. Note: My I tried auto FP 1/250 on the D4s and 1/320th Auto FP and 1/250th Auto FP on the D7000. No joy!I tried adjusting the ODS delay and that actually makes it worse with significant clipping across the bottom of the image. To be fair my first attempt was using it on a D4s and that's not listed as a supported camera (something you don't know until you unlock the compatibility info on the Elinchrom support page.) Ok fair enough - next up was a D7000 which IS listed as a supported camera and the results are identical. You really can't even expect a decent image at 1/1000sOne other annoyance is the power indications only reflect the pack setting when the flash head is plugged into the 'A' Port. If you're using the 'B' Port you'll have to do some math. Very disappointed when using the ELB-400's in two groups with one group head in the 'B' Port. The images look like a gradient filter was applied to the top of the image. One thing I do like is the ability to turn on the modeling light remotely but that's not really worth $.If someone can tell me I'm doing something wrong - I'm all ears.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Check compatibility with camera before you buy I've used Elinchrom equipment for several years now and have two Skyport Speed transmitters. I never really have issues with the SPEED except every now and then it won't trigger the receiver. This one seems to be more consistent. Maybe because it has better signal, I'm not sure. I got this one mainly for HS. Unfortunately it's not compatible with my Nikon D500....or at least it says unpredictable results. So I'm hoping a firmware update will address that down the road. Otherwise it works well with the older Nikon bodies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish I bought it years ago! This is a game-changer for studio photography. No more walking back and forth from your strobes, and no more wondering if you clicked the button or not on the SPEED transmitter (I had the old EL19350). While it's not perfect, it's still a fantastic tool I don't want to be without. The downsides? If you turn on/off a strobe in the middle of a session, the Skyport doesn't automatically detect it (you have to go through the setup menu). Another downside is a somewhat clunky interfaceit's not terrible, but not great either.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, but not amazing I have always loved Elinchrom lights, so I said why not. Most of my work is portraits and I use 1-4 lights. I made sure all my lights firmware were updated before using this new transmitter. At first I was glad I purchased it! Then after a few minutes of just not using it.... it will some how disconnect from the lights. I kept pressing refresh and it would only show me 1 light connected when I had 3 of them. I had to turn it off and turn it back on again. I did this about 4 to 5 times during an entire day of shooting. I do like that I have full control of my lights when it comes to the flash and modeling light output. It would be nice if Elinchrom allowed you to rename the units using their EL Skyport USB RX transmitter. I tried and tried, but you cant. It is a bit big and bulky, but if you can get over that, it is not a bad item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What the Doctor Ordered I never really had much issue with the former Skyport, except there was no HSS option. So, I have been using Pocketwizard for Hypersync with my Quadras but that is kind of clunky. The EL-Skyport HS changes all of that. It's does exactly what is supposed to and it's built beautifully. Super easy to set up and use. My only wish is that the LCD was a little brighter, but my eyes are old so it probably won't be an issue for most.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Make sure your equipment is compatible Please be sure to check the Elinchrom website for product compatibilities. I had to purchase the Skyport USB device to update the firmware on my Elinchrom ELC Pro HD unit to make it usable with this transmitter. Also please note the limitations with both some of the older as well as recent Elinchrom products with this device. You may be disappointed that your gear doesn't utilize all the features of this transmitter.
