You can control the switcher manually by using the built-in controls, or connect it to a computer or iPad running optional software for electronic control. Select your working resolution and switch between your four input sources. Built into the switcher is a 12-channel audio mixer which can de-embed and embed audio signals from HDMI.

The integrated T-fader allows you to manually control the speed of transitions, or you can use the take button to actuate your selected transition. The unit features a program and multiview preview output, as well as an analog audio input and output. Though small in size, it allows you to perform picture-in-picture, green screen, and other keying effects, while a transform control enables advanced video effects on your footage.

HD Switcher
This portable HD switcher supports four inputs of HD video, allowing you to select 1080i, 1080p, or 720p as your input source. Each input incorporates a frame buffer/TBC that allows you to use non-genlocked cameras, as well as play-out devices as video sources. You select the broadcast system (59.94/50 Hz) within the menu. The format selector switch is a global switch that affects the input and output format. However, with the switch in either of the 1080 options, the V-1HD enables input of both 1080i and 1080p signals.
Audio Mixer
The built-in 12-channel audio mixer allows you to de-embed audio from the HDMI stream, mix, and re-embed the audio into your output stream. The audio mixer is accessed by a connected PC running the available software.
Output Modes
The V-1HD features two HDMI outputs—one output always shows your switched program output, while the other (preview) can be switched between program output and multiview of your four sources.
Control Buttons
The soft rubber backlit buttons allow you to easily see the condition of your switcher, even in dim lighting conditions.

  • Red: Indicates the current source being output
  • Green: Indicates the video source that will be output on the next transition
Transitions
There are three buttons for applying transition effects: Cut, Mix (4 types), and Wipe (30 types).
Beat-per-Minute Sync
By using the T-fader bar and the BP-Sync button, you can deliver visuals synced to a music performance.
Memory
The Memory button allows you to save or recall up to eight presets, and the Freeze button can temporarily pause the incoming video.
Transformer Buttons
These buttons can be used to switch your video instantly or for applying effects.
Transitions
The T-bar lets you control the speed of your selected transitions.
Keying
The keying functionality permits picture-in-picture as well as green screen keying and graphics keying.
Output Fade
You can select to fade your output video to either black or white.
Effects
  • Picture-in-picture and split screen functions
  • Supports chroma and luminance key
  • Two separate bus effects knobs allow you to apply affects independently to each bus
  • Nine types of filter effects are available including silhouette, colorpass, negative, and findedge

  • EQ
  • Delay
  • Compressor
  • HPF
  • Gate
  • Reverb

Control
Remote control is possible with the V-1HD RCS dedicated computer software for Mac OS X and Windows, or the V-1HD Remote iPad app connected via a USB cable. The application offers a detailed view of the connected V-1HD and can be used to switch video, mix audio, or change settings. You can control the unit from a music instrument or a sequencer via the MIDI input connector via MIDI. The V-1HD also transmits MIDI over USB and its controls can be mapped to popular visual performance software applications. Please use the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter to connect an iPad to the V-1HD.

Fantastic product does exactly what intended to. B and H was very convenient because I needed to get 2 of these plus the 8 channel quickly for a national tournament and they were available.

Needed this shipped overnight and B&H got it to me! Used it for a live event with four input sources and had to output to two laser projectors. Performed without a fault. This switcher rocks!

WORTH IT

It's expensive. But the balanced XLR inputs, stereo RCA in, aux in, balanced TRS outs and thorough iPad control are worth the extra expense. Layout is intuitive, metal box is sturdy as are the connectors. EQ/compressor/limiter on each channel and on master out. Brightness/contrast on all ins. Also saturation, color and zoom on input 4 scaler. PiP, split screen, etc. at touch of a button. After using Roland V-1HD+ I would not be happy with the more popular, cheaper competition. I don't know why B&H pics don't include screenshots of the iPad app. That's the best feature of this product. You can see them here - https://proav.roland.com/global/products/v-1hd_plus_remote/

Many of the same great features as the V-8HD. Less inputs, but better audio capability. Highly recommend. Easy to use, good scaling on one input, solid, reliable with easy keying and effects

This Roland V-HD+ with the UVC-01 encoder is great. The ability for a novice to just hook it up and have it work is simply amazing. The quality of picture and sound is awesome. Thanks for the opportunity to get this great equipment and thanks to the B&H Photo team which is always knowledgeable, helpful and extra kudos for the price. Thanks!!

Pretty Good

I use this to switch between my phone, laptop, and DVD player while projecting for drive-in movies. Nice to have an input for XLR microphones, 3.5mm TRS out (i use it to send to an FM transmitter), and 1/4 TRS outs (to send to audio mixers or directly to powered speakers). Unlike BlackMagic ATEMs, this actually supports HDCP allowing DVDs to play. It does have built-in chroma keying, so I'm able to use H2R Graphics from my laptop to easily add live text and countdowns over video. Minus one star because the manual doesn't say anything about supported USB flash drives. I spent weeks trying to find one that would work with this switcher.... the only one that I found to work was a 256mb flash drive I got in 2004. I couldn't get anything over 1gb to work (trying Sandisk and Samsung drives), but a couple of 1920x1080 PNGs only took up 1mb each. Also, it only supports PNG and BMP file types. That is in the manual but I tried using JPGs before reading it. I think it's way overpriced, but it does exactly what I need it to, and at the time the ATEM Mini Extreme wasn't out yet, I needed a switcher with a multi-view out and program out so I could set up without a laptop. Well built metal case, RGB-LED buttons, some customization options in the menu.

Very Easy To Operate

This Switcher is bulletproof and easy for our new techs to use it. We have LED trailers that we have on the road all year. We will do 30 to 40 shows a year.

Great Mixer, questionable Capture Device

By Timothy

I purchased the V-1HD+ to replace an Atem Mini that had a program output HDMI die. The mixer has nice quality audio preamps and great functionality like audio delay and PIP etc... Great stuff until I realized the UVC-01 capture device was glitchy with OBS. I am getting audio and video stuttering that seems repetitive. All is well when I capture with my Elgato HD60+ I expected more from a Roland branded product sold as a pair... Frustrating as the capture card space is a mess. Tough to know what to trust.

question

Is there some way to incorporate tally lights with this unit? I need to make sure the talent knows which camera is live, so they can speak to the correct one. Thanks!
Asked by: Curt
There is no tally integration with this switcher and that is what is needed to operate tally lights.

Yes, you would just need an HDMI Capture device for your computer. Such as this option from Magewell. https://bhpho.to/37FKVhH

question

Can this production switcher handle 2-2.5k footage?
Asked by: 3nityXcel
The max resolution that this switcher can handle is 1080p, it does not work with a 2k or 2.5k signal I'm afraid. We do have the ATEM Production Studio 4k, which can handle a UHD 3840 x 2160 signal. However even that model does not offer support for 2k or 2.5k, those are not resolutions supported by production switchers in general at this time.

question

how do i broadcast in youtube with this?
Asked by: Gabriel B.
You need to encode the Roland's output so you can get it into your computer. Once in the computer, the video will mount on your desktop. Then open YouTube and select your video stream and you are on your way. Please see the attached for a recommended encoder, the Magewell XI100DUSB HDMI USB 3.0 Capture Dongle.

question

Will the V1 accept a HDMI signal from Panasonic HDC-TM700? I see 35' as a length for HDMI cables I tried on the Black Magic and it would't accept any HDMI signal from the Panasonic TM700 over 12'. That being the case I returned it since it didn't state that condition.
Asked by: Ernie
Generally speaking, an HDMI signal is not strong and weakens exponentially with distance traveled. I would blame the distance and the type of HDMI cable before any switcher. If indeed the switcher is not accepting the signal another does, I would still suggest getting a better cable. HDMI signals peter out 30-35' so if you are anywhere near that, you need HDMI cabling with booster circuitry. Please follow the link for a selection of longer distance HDMI cables. http://bhpho.to/1LRl5rv

question

Does this unit output 23.97fps or 29.97 fps at 1080p ?

Sorry this unit only supports 50/59.94. You would have to do a signal conversion from those frame rates.
