RODE NTG3 Moisture-Resistant Shotgun Microphone (Satin Nickel)

Capture broadcast-quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the satin nickel Rode NTG3 moisture-resistant shotgun microphone. Professional-level features such as low-noise circuitry, upgraded immunity to radio-frequency interference, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in postproduction.

The NTG3's high sensitivity allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG3 delivers consistently clear sound due in part to its gentle rise in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing attenuation of low bass frequencies. Its switch- and dial-free design lets you set up quickly and focus on the sound instead of fiddling with various mic settings. The solid brass housing is both durable and lightweight, and its anti-glare finish prevents reflections in the shot.

Designed to Withstand Adverse Environmental Conditions
When your work takes you outdoors, you're bound to encounter humidity and condensation, which can cause many mics to fail. The NTG3's RF bias technology makes it almost completely resistant to moisture, allowing you to reliably capture high-quality audio in normal and adverse environmental conditions. It also includes a weatherproof aluminum storage cylinder for maximum protection during travel.
Broadcast-Quality Sound
The NTG3 was engineered for broadcast-quality sound, enhanced immunity to RF (radio frequency) interference, and low handling noise. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

The combination of the NTG3's 10" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused on-axis directionality with maximum rejection behind the mic. Its low self-noise of 13 dBA and highly sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones.
Phantom Powered
Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 44 to 52 VDC phantom power, the NTG3 is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.
Ideal for Boompole Mounting
The NTG3 includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG3 in the Rode SMR-4 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic.
Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise
The NTG3 has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Auray Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones (7")

The Auray WSS Series Professional Windshields deliver superior 360° wind protection with acoustic transparency. They are engineered for dramatic reduction of unwanted broadband wind noise and vocal pops with very little high-frequency loss, for exceptionally accurate recordings.

This WSS-2018 Professional Windshield has an inside depth of 7" and is designed for use with many shotgun microphones. It features a specially manufactured open-cell foam matrix surrounded by a layer of 0.9" thick simulated fur. This diffusion technology lowers wind velocity in a controlled air space around the microphone, thereby reducing wind noise without muffling the sound. It also features an airtight tapered rubber base that seals out wind from the rear of the microphone, greatly improving isolation and rear-wind protection.

When used on a shotgun microphone, this slip-on windshield is effective in minimizing wind noise and plosive sounds. It is most effective in light breeze to strong breeze conditions (4 to 25 mph), and you can generally expect a 24 to 40 dB reduction in wind noise with negligible dampening of high frequencies.

In addition to superior 360° wind protection, the WSS-2018 helps prevent moisture and dirt from damaging your microphone. The windscreen is designed to fit microphones from Rode, Sennheiser, Sanken, Sony, and others.

The WSS-2018 Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones is an advanced solution for outstanding wind protection with acoustic transparency.

This is my first shotgun mic (i typically do music recording and mixing but am venturing into short film audio). It sounded great. Very directional and made the audio super easy to work with when mixing. Seems super durable and i love the silver finish. Very stylish and solid sounding mic!

NTG3 is the best!

question

What's the difference between the NTG3 & the NTG8? And which is better??
Asked by: Ryan
The NTG3 and NTG8 are similar in internal components and both offer great sound quality. The difference in the mics is the length of the interference tube. The NTG8 being a longer mic at 22 vs the NTG3 at 10 inches. The longer tube is directly related to the directionality in capture for use in applications where a tight pickup pattern or recording from a distance is required.

Is this Mic compatible with the Canon G40?
Asked by: Trey
Hello Trey, unfortunately, you need 48v phantom power to operate the NTG3. It doesn't appear the G40 provides that. I recommend the Rode NTG2 or 4+ as they have power in the microphone.

How does the NTG3 work as a handheld interview ...

How does the NTG3 work as a handheld interview mic out on the field?
Asked by: Anonymous
The short answer here is, not typically. I say this because the NTG3 is a very directional, supercardioid microphone. What this means is, it is designed more for isolating at various distances and not so much for direct, close audio. If you do use this microphone in tight you can also hear variations in the volume and sound. Handling noise would also be an issue.

I lost my mic foam , I was looking for something to help me with my room echo , any ideas
Asked by: Mohammed
For a replacement foam windscreen that will fit on the RODE NTG3B Shotgun Microphones, you can use the Auray WSF-2018 Foam Windscreen for Shotgun Microphones (B&H # AUWSF2018). To cut down on room echo, we offer a selection of acoustic treatments like absorption panels and enclosures. You may also be able to use a reflection filter, depending on how the mic will be used. Please feel free to contact us directly by phone or through live chat and we can help you to find the best options for your specific application.

How to power with rhode go

How to power with rhode go
Asked by: Ryan
The NTG3 requires 48 volt phantom power to operate. Since the Rode Wireless Go transmitter does not provide the required power, you will need to place a battery powered phantom power supply inbetween the mic and transmitter. Here is an option from PSC: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577469-REG/PSC_FPSC0001_48_PHantom_Single.html/overview.
